Hello,
I’m new to the smart phone world so please be patient with my questions.
I am considering the 8+ because of the camera. Otherwise I don’t need the bigger size screen as I have my iPad Pro 9.7” and I’m wondering if the extra price and size/weight is worthwhile for me. Having said that when I tried the 8, 8+ and SE in the Apple store they all felt much lighter than I expected. However the compact size and weight of the SE is still a big bonus in my opinion. I don’t plan on upgrading to a new phone regularly, so my main concern with the SE is it becoming obsolete quickly and possibly the model being updated next year.
If I was to chose the IP8 I would probably feel like I should have spent the extra to the get the 8+ for the camera. My ideal phone would be an updated SE with the dual lens camera but I realise this isn’t going to happen!
I use to take lots of photos with my DSLR but due to poor health the weight of the camera became an issue. I realise this is not even close to the quality of a DSLR and dedicated lenses but if it gets me back into taking some photos then that will be a good thing.
I was excited about the portrait mode when it was introduced in the 7+ but now I’m doubting whether this feature is worthwhile for me. Don’t get me wrong it is an amazing feature for a phone but not sure if I would continue to use it much after the new shiny phone effect wears off and also I have seen some very bad examples of blurring! I would rarely use it to take actual portraits but would be more interested for outdoor/nature photography and so called macro/close up photography. I’ve seen some very nice photos but I’ve equally seem some very poor ones with blurring (bokeh) effect failing. In the Apple store I tried taking a photo of another display iPhone with the shop background blurred but most of the bezels and the top of the phone randomly blurred away leaving a terrible photo. (maybe my hands were shaky but I’ve definitely been put off by some of the sample photos!)
Also I should note that I do not use my mobile phone much and would use a long expiry pay as you go prepaid hence another reason for my wariness paying the premium for the plus model.
I realise in the end it is my decision to make and I will keep in mind the 14 day returns offered at Apple if my decision turns out not to be the right one.
Also I made another thread regarding the difference between the wide angle and telephoto lens on the 8+. I would like to see some comparison photo examples.
