Anyone resisting the upgrade?

Usually I upgrade OS quite early on, but last time I did I learnt my lesson - half my software stopped working, along with my RAID manager, so no access to my drives!

I have a 16" M1 Max, I'm still on Monterey and, to be honest, I'm happy to stick. Everything is working. I have no need to upgrade at all. I've also decided to stay on the OSX that comes with my system originally for as long as I possibly can - in addition, newer OS's are geared towards newer hardware and I feel it slows down older hardware over time......maybe it's just me, but that's how it feels!

I don’t upgrade my M2 Air. I will just stick with the oldest (major version) I can (as long as it’s secured enough and compatible with apps I used). I prefer to have stable & fast system and long battery life.

Apple is trying to force upgrades: the latest versions of iMovie & Final Cut Pro now require macOS 13.4 or later; Pages, Numbers, Keynote require macOS 13.0 or later.

I've skipped Ventura – as I did Big Sur – but will probably go with Sonoma, though I'll wait for the 14.1 release. Reading the forums, Ventura never seemed to settle; the response to Sonoma has been far better.

I'm fine with Monterey, but we're all on the hamster-wheel, and there are diminishing returns on holding back. YMMV, etc.

That said, they have released a few security and app (like Safari) updates for Monterey - including this week. Not sure if Apple will nag you to upgrade to Ventura, or simply recognize you are on Monterey and offer these updates.

While I'm on a Ventura Mini M2 at home, I maintain a 2017 Intel Air on Monterey (the last OS Apple would support on it) as my work / travel device. These minor updates haven't seemed to bugger anything, while the Air / Monterey does everything I ask of it.

I would say, 12.7 Monterey update is very minor one. After the update, Time Machine backup update is very quick, sign that the delta is very small.

I skipped Ventura altogether and also may skip Sonoma due to incoming incompatibility with my wifi card Fenvi

I have a 2021 MBP 14" which came with Monterey.
It runs so well, that I have no desire to "upgrade" to Ventura.
(I do have a copy of Ventura on an external SSD to experiment with)

I'll be sticking with Monterey until it won't run any longer...

I’m not upgrading to macOS 13 Ventura because my Mac mini only supports up to macOS 12 Monterey, and also I’ve never found Ventura too appealing.

I’m eager to jump directly into macOS 14 Sonoma as soon as I get a new Mac, but for now, Monterey is pretty stable and smooth. Not sure if they have released a new software update with security fixes…

I'm staying on Monterey until it it stops receiving security updates, and then will do the same with Ventura.

After that I will have to buy a new computer since my MBP 2017 is too old for Sonoma.

Well quite the Opposite with me:

Have Sonoma allready on my Intel and had all the Beta´s.
Running my M2 on Ventura latest and could not be happier to be able to use my iPhone as a WebCam ( new since Ventura ) also with Follower Mode and SuperHighQuality WebRTC. External Camera would cost me 300 Bucks to archive that.

Had no Problems @ all, but i am not using any fancy Tools and know exactly how to use the Terminal.
With Sonoma agin i´ll enjoy the PresenterMode feature.

( to use Raid with a MacOS based Software is negligent )
I think there is a Raid Linux Distro now, you even can change all Hardware and it still works after scanning drives.

I noticed that with the latest version of Logic. As far as I'm concerned, they're not convincing me to update my OS, all their doing is convincing me to NOT update my Apple apps.
I’ll not update my Intel Mac past Monterey, as I really doubt Apple is optimizing any of its new software, OS or apps, for Intel now.
I’ll consider updating my M1 Mac to Sonoma, when it will be stable enough. Probably around the 14.6 release :)

I did install Ventura shortly after 13.2 but wish I'd held off. Sonoma seems like it's going to be the one to get, going by feedback on here from beta users. Whereas Ventura has a 16-page thread of bugs and complaints, including one from me (still unresolved) about it dropping certain USB devices after waking from sleep.

So... use non-Apple alternatives.
iMovie / Final Cut Pro = Adobe Premiere.
Pages = MS Word.
Numbers = MS Excel (I think? not actually sure what Numbers is)
Keynote = Google Slides.

I am on the same boat... My iPhone 14 Pro Max has iOS 16.2 as the default version (out of the box) and I'm thinking of upgrading it to iOS 16.6.1/16.7 RC... I've heard about the camera improvements brought by iOS 17 but I will try to keep it on iOS 16.x as much as possible...

Monterey is the last official update for my MacBook Pro 2015... I have never purchased Final Cut Pro and I just learned that it now requires Ventura or newer... I am thinking of upgrading to Ventura/Sonoma using OCLP, however, is it worth it?

According to Keith, developer of Scrivener, 10.12 is no longer supported by Apple’s latest developer tools.

To be fair, Apple have done this before (after release of new macOS version).

Guessing: this has something to do with the iOSing of macOS, and the removal of certain features that can't be iOSised. I understand that Sonoma uses the iOS cursor, for example, and its width and colour can't be adjust by apps – I'm not a dev, so this is only anecdotal.

"Xcode 15 requires a Mac running macOS Ventura 13.5 or later."

I didn't say Apple forces me to upgrade, just in general. See post 13
iMovie is free, Adobe Premiere is a monthly subscription.
LibreOffice replaces all three and it’s free, unlike MS Word & Excel https://libreoffice.org/

I have M1 Air and am still on Monterey 12.7 ..skipped Ventura, and will probably upgrade when 14.4 or so is released in perhaps late Spring.

Today's Safari update added more space between my favorites/bookmarks, so a handful fell off the page.

To be fair I do update my iPhone/iPad regular - its just my MacBook I don't upgrade to the newer OSX (I do update the current version though).
I use Final Cut Pro regularly - it does everything I need and tons more already, so I wont miss whatever the update brings under Ventura. It's still not enough to make me switch.
As long as my system does what I need I'm going to stick!

I'm in the same boat, I'm in no rush to move to Sonoma having skipped Ventura. Older versions of Safari being discontinued is the reason I upgraded from Big Sur to Monterey (skipped Catalina).

OpenCore Legacy Patcher! Many of us with 2012s and older are able to keep our Macs going with excellent compatibility. You can totally upgrade to Sonoma if you'd like. It's entirely possible your Mac might even improve in performance by doing so.

Yes I will test OpenCore Legacy Patcher in the end.

Maybe I will buy a new Macbook anyway before Ventura support stops. My 2017 is starting to feel a bit slow.

Well, exactly! ;) Meanwhile, I understand there are a number of features in Sonoma that will not appear in the version running on M1 or earlier. This was noted in a review I saw somewhere online. They're still selling the M1, but it seems they have already decided its headed for 'obsolete.' Nice...

I'm assuming one can upgrade from Monterey straight to Sonoma?
Then again, may be an idea to move to Ventura when Sonoma is released - stay one OSX version behind!
