so, I’m getting an Apple Watch, and my wife ordered it this past Friday and we have an in-store pickup.

My question is: I obviously won’t open it until Christmas. Does that matter at all that I won’t use the Watch for a month in terms of it effecting the battery?

You may have to recharge it, but it won’t hurt the battery. My wife stuck hers in a drawer for 3 months before deciding to use it again, with no ill effects.

Being this is a new Apple Watch, your battery should be fine with no issues. Lithium ion batteries Naturally deplete if they're not used, so it might be completely depleted by the time you unbox it depending how much of a charge the battery has from the factory, however, Just charge it as you normally would.

One thing to keep in mind, it's not healthy to allow lithium ion batteries to fully deplete and Remain depleted with no use. You want to have somewhat of a charge with the device to keep the battery from being depleted, which sometimes, depending on the time of length the battery stays depleted, it will not recover.

Not to worry. If the watch doesn’t work when you open it you will be able take take it back to Apple for an exchange.

Will you? I thought that there was a two-week limit to simply return the watch and order a new one. It seems to me that the problem with not testing the watch until Christmas is that you may have an issue if it proves defective. Apple will repair your watch but not necessarily give you a new one.

If you research Li-Ion batteries designed for wireless charging (like the Apple Watch), they absolutely must be placed on charge at least once every 2 to 4 weeks to maintain longevity. What you don't know is any retailer who sells an Apple Watch must have the Apple Repackager v2.1 that allows them to pull watches out of inventory, unpackage, put on charge a min of 15 minutes, then using the RP2.1, repackage it as though it was still factory sealed.

Waiting over a month for Christmas to come is way out of line. The experience with the Apple Watch will be greatly diminished. Both posters must show this post to their spouses and obtain immediate permission to open the respective boxes and charge/wear the watch to preserve its integrity.

;-)

Ah great! Nice start. You wouldn't happen to have Judaism in your family line do you? Did you ever play with a dreidel as a kid? Hanukkah starts Dec 12 you know.

I think it's cool you have to wait. My wife and I are both on our 2nd marriages. Separate finances. I'm a known technospendthrift, not to mention knives/flashlights/glocks/motorcycle accessories, and she can make a penny squeal. She complains about me around Christmas because there is nothing to get me that I haven't gotten already for myself.
