After a few days away with no phone, I've just came home and have been playing with the Note 2. So far so very, very good! However I've noticed a slight problem. On dark screens, there is a dark line visible. If it didn't go away under lighter colours I'd say it was dead pixels but obviously it isn't.

Does anyone know what this is and shall I call amazon/Samsung for a replacement? I get the feeling that it'll annoy me!

Other than that in utterly loving the phone and android. It's a heck of a lot more intuitive than what it's made out to be!

can you provide a screen shot where this line is? And is it the same exact line on all different dark images?

Yes it's the same line. Little hard to capture on camera but I had a crack!

Zoom in on the centre of the picture, above the centre of the chrome logo.

You "had" a crack? So the crack is gone? I honestly can't make out the line anywhere in that pic, I'm guessing it's a lot easier to see in person.

I was going to suggest to take a screen capture by swiping the side of your hand across the screen. If the line doesn't show up in the screen grab, you know it's a physical defect. In which case, get it exchanged immediately. Annoying for sure, but better than keeping something that can end up getting a lot worse later.

There are hundreds of more reliable sources of info than an Apple forum.

    Google is your friend :)

There's no such thing on an Amoled display. This is why blacks on an amoled are PURE BLACK (the pixel is off.)

Could be a ghosting artifact? I don't see it in the pic though. We need a screen capture.

Whoops, apologies. 'Had a crack', in English speak, means 'had a go' or 'I tried'. :)

I rang Amazon and apparently the item isn't in stock so they can only issue a refund. Unfortunately that means I'd be without a phone again which would be very inconvenient. The very odd thing is that it's only in certain lights. I cranked up the brightness and could have sworn it was gone, then after a few minutes of trying to spot it again it was there - plain as day.

I took a screen shot and zoomed in on the area where it is - instead of it moving around with the picture, it stayed there. It appears to be greys that brings it out. It's literally just a line, no bigger than 1-2cm. I'm guessing it is actually a physical defect. I'm going to keep it for a few more days and if it really irritates me, I'll return it. If not, I'll wait for it to come back in stock and receive the replacement.

What is that? I've seen nothing like this before but then again, I'm no screen expert. I find this peculiar because it only appears under certain colours. If you open Google Chrome, remove all the tabs, on the grey screen there's an indented Chrome logo. This line stems from the centre of the logo and northwards for 1-2cm. I'll occasionally spot the line under certain dark GUIs but other than that, you wouldn't think anything was wrong.

Opened the attachment above on my Mac. You can see the line, very faintly. Open the picture, look to the outline of [my] head/phone, where the head/phone meets [my] shoulders, the line stems from there southwards to the chrome logo. It's a very black colour and is definitely visible. Let me know if you spot it. Also, bear in mind that the photo should obviously be rotated to the right.

Also, can anyone link me to Note II related Mac software from the Samsung website? If it's just Kies then I've already got that.

As far as I'm aware it's just Kies mate.

I can see the faint line in your pic, I dont know how to fix it, now you know it is there it will annoy you no end (would me), hope you can get it sorted and enjoy your new phone.:)

OT, this is great for the Note 2, I followed the steps on my GS3, works and looks brilliant.

That's a relief. I was a little worried of being committed to an asylum there.

It's just irritating because I've been having a lot of fun with it. Android certainly offers so much more over iOS. Just installed the NovaLauncher which is fantastic. It's just typing that's annoying me at the moment. I installed SwiftKey which is significantly better though.

Amazon have a 30 day return policy in the UK, I would be tempted to keep looking to see if they get some more in stock and then return the phone within the 30 days.

Amazon have been second-to-none since calling them before. I've never had to replace or return anything before so it's been a new experience. You literally sign into your account, select the product, what's wrong and you can request an instant call back from one of their reps.

I spoke with an American guy from an Irish area code, he was most helpful. If it was in stock, they would have sent out a replacement and I would have had the time to swap everything over and not be without a phone. But as it's out of stock, it's hard luck really - only a refund can be issued. He told me that Amazon, at this time of year, allow refunds anytime for items purchases in November and December until the end of January. Very impressive.

He mentioned that Samsung's supply of the Note II within the UK is somewhat sporadic so he can't even track when they'll next arrive. Gutted.

I too have only had good experiences with Amazon. I was at the PC world superstore in Middlesbrough yesterday, they have a Samsung outlet there, no Note 2 in stock though, pity, as I wanted to have a play with one. Have a great New year and enjoy your superb phone.:)

I've decided to return the Note 2 to Amazon. Does anyone know how to factory reset? Tried four different ways from Google searches and got nothing.

From memory and on my old GS3 is was something like settings > security > reset factory default.
