So I know two things about smart connectors:
1. It carries power
2. It has a magnet
Why didn't apple just introduce a magsafe for the iPad? and for that, if the next iphone has the smart connector too, why not there as well? Keep the lightning port, but have the smart connector be the new de-facto way of charging your phone.
Has anybody done a teardown on if it's actually possible?

Yes it can carry a full charge. I guess I should look forward to magsafe in the future for all our products!
