a picture is a great idea. it's just that the quality can be rather disappointing. i have used the ipod4 on occasion, but prefer a digital camera. if it's worth saving, it's worth doing well. you might want to give a try to apps like scannerpro. i prefer to touch up photos with that.

But using a camera could take a very long time, especially with textbooks.

I'm just starting to investigate these. I bought a couple to try them out. I suggest taking a look at PaperDesk. It allows you to mix handwritten notes and sketches with typed notes as well as photos and audio recordings. You can also import a PDF and annotate it. This seems to have the widest combination of features. I haven't had to rely on it yet so I can't recommend yet.

Another item to consider is iKeyboard. This is a thin overlay for the iPad that lets you touch type. It has a keyboard pattern to rest your fingers on and a thin membrane so you can touch this without triggering an action on the iPad. It is on kickstarter. They should start shipping in a week or two so see what the reviews have to say once people get them in their hands.

I'm contradicting my earlier post but PDF Expert 3.0 was recently released and boy Readdle has been working hard. It is a major update and now I am tempted to move from GR to PDF Expert (except it's a hassle as I have to transfer everything). I just hope one of them supports iCloud upon release such that files will auto sync with the iPhone version.
