Has anyone tried Soundnote? Sounds pretty cool: it records while you take notes, and while reviewing the notes, when you press on a word, the audio immediately jumps to the spot you wrote it down.

I was also considering UPad. Seemed highly functional as well. Anyone try it?

Manage a small clinic, use soundnote for all my meetings or notes if its a short meeting, love soundnote.

Anyone try PaperDesk? I believe this app has this functionality as well. A fellow student I met while lining up for the iPad 2 says he uses it to take notes in class.

I use an app called Sundry notes. The app is great, it does everything you would need. You can type, draw, record voice notes, take pictures, etc. The app also backs up to a cloud, which is really handy. As for styluses, I use the Targus stylus. It works pretty well, but I recently bought a Dagi stylus on eBay. I haven't tried this stylus yet, but it looks pretty cool. I don't bring paper with me anymore, I trust my iPad to handle everything. :)

Used SoundNote for a few months before getting my MBA. Very useful app, super simple yet very intuitive. Give it a go.

I've been playing around with NoteShelf, NoteTaker HD, Notes Plus, Penultimate and UPad. At the moment UPad seems to work best for me but I haven't spent enough time with any of the apps to decide on a clear winner.

UPad is my preferred one at this point - tried them all. As usual, the perfect app would be UPad with some of the other features from the other apps!

Write Pad - OCR and DropBox
Sound Note - syncing audio to your notes
Note shelf - Icons/Stamps
Handy Notes - iPad camera input

One day I guess!

UPAD and Nataal stylus FTW

+1 :D

It's so relieving to not have to carry all my different binders around any more. I just throw my iPad into my bookbag (which is just one of those drawstring athletic college-branded bags) and a folder. The folder is mainly for things that get returned to me in class, like tests, quizzes, problem sets, etc.

Yup, the future is now. And it. is. awesome.

for the stylus

which one has more of a pointed rubberized tip, not the rounded, i know there are some out there?

i got a short targus one, not really feeling it, not realistic to me because it is so short.

thanks.

How natural is handwriting on an IPad? Do you guys have to hover your hand above the screen when writing? I've heard some apps have "wrist protection". Is it any good?

I use Note Taker HD, and it has 2 note writing modes...Edit 1 has Wrist Guard, and lets you write directly on the iPad as if writing on paper. Edit 2 lets you write into a user-defined area at the bottom of the iPad, which feels much easier to take notes (you really don't have to even lift your hand, so Wrist Guard is unnecessary). It will auto-advance the ink where you left off, which also limits how much you have to move your hand.

I use a boxwave stylus, which seems to feel & write as naturally as with a pen. It has completely replaced my notebook/pen for school note-taking. My school uses powerpoint for most lectures, and pdfs for most of the readings. I use Goodreader for iPad, to annotate the ppt's/pdf's onto my iPad, then you can write directly onto them. It's not only more efficient than carrying around all of those items, but it makes me feel pretty special :D

The thumbnail below shows the Edit 2 mode, and the area to write in, which is at the very bottom of the screen.
