Google's NotebookLM AI-based tool can now turn your research and notes into fully animated "cinematic" videos – an advancement over its original video overview feature that was introduced last year.

Before now, video overviews were limited to generating slideshows of your research and writing, but the new Cinematic Video Overview feature uses Gemini 3, Nano Banana Pro, and Veo 3 models to generate animated visuals "to help you learn and engage with the topics you care about," says Google.

Google says Gemini acts as a creative director, making hundreds of structural and stylistic decisions to best tell the story with your sources. It determines the best narrative, visual style and format, and also refines its own work to ensure consistency.

Cinematic Video Overviews are available in English for Google AI Ultra subscribers over 18 on web and mobile, and there's a maximum of 20 overviews generated per day. The NotebookLM app is available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

OK how long until Grant Sanderson and 3blue1brown goes out of business? Eventually they'll have to create videos through Manim directly.

the demo video only contains non-sense pictures. I closed it after 10 seconds.
It literally creates nonsense. I am so tired of these companies promoting slop as a feature. This is why we have people creating graphics. Designers. It takes time and effort, but the result is something good and valuable. This kind of AI feature is just instant crap, and it threatens to replace everything good and logical by force of it being mindbogglingly inexpensive.

My company uses Google workspace with all the enterprise features. And Gemini is HORRIFICALLY bad at creating a power point from explicit written instructions.

So I’m finding it really difficult to believe that Gemini is going to be making a meaningful or useful video artifact out of notes when I can’t get it to edit a presentation slide without wanting to pull my hair out.

I use NotebookLM for going through my mountain of research papers and finding specific info in a paper, basically like a glorified search engine.
It still can’t do basic things like let me organise my papers into folders or see which ones were imported through deep research.
I swear Google has no idea what we want they add pointless stuff like this. Genuinely at what point do they realise NO ONE CARES about useless features like this, it doesn’t help the people using these tools. Focus on making the UX better first
