Notes keeps crashing after update to iOS16 - anyone else?

Try deleting the shared folder. Once deleted it will go to a local folder called "Recently deleted", from where you will be able to restore it later. Do this on the computer. Once you've done that proceed as I mentioned on my post. It should work. In my case, the thing that was crashing the app is a shared folder that was not working properly.
I tried everything from sharing a document to an existing note to deleting all shared notes but Notes app keeps on crashing.
Any other ideas?

OK, it now works after sharing a document to a “regular” note. Before I was using “Quick notes” and that didn’t work.I tried everything from sharing a document to an existing note to deleting all shared notes but Notes app keeps on crashing.

I have same issue, but my problem notes are from an Exchange server mailbox. Totally removed the exchange account (mail, contacts calendars, notes).Rebooted phone and added the Exchange account back in - still shows '0' notes and crashes. Expect I'll go through my notes on Outlook and edit or delete one by one to see if I can resolve.
Have now resolved with my Exchange account.
Opened Outlook on laptop
Created Notes backup (via import/export to pst)
Copied all notes to 'Notes (this computer only)' folder
Waited and checked iPhone
Found there was now just a single note synced to my phone. I deleted this note.
Moved back to Outlook
Deleted the same note as seen on iPhone from all notes folders.
Copied all remaining notes from 'Notes (this computer only)' folder to regular 'Notes' folder
Moved back to iPhone - all notes now syncing and can create new notes without crashing
Opened Outlook on laptop
Created Notes backup (via import/export to pst)
Copied all notes to 'Notes (this computer only)' folder
Waited and checked iPhone

This problem started when I decided to switch from Evernote, and so I imported over 2,000 notes to iOS Notes. The problem only affected my iPhone with iOS 16, my iPad running iPadOS 15.7 was working fine. Everything I tried to fix the iPhone failed, until I went to Messages, found a PDF, and shared it to an old Note (the first try didn't work when I used a photo). Anyone understand why this worked?

I shared a Pages document to an existing note and can confirm that it resolved my crashing issue. I deleted the document later and Notes continues to stay open. It was important to use a document because I tried a photo first and it didn’t work.

i have the same issue from 14/09/2022
Case still open to Apple but this morning after trying everything else including rebuild of the iPhone after factory reset etc… trying to find all duplicates notes in my 3000+++ Notes …
I have fixed it like that:
1) trying to create quick note from Photo
Apps still crashing but ….
After closing all the Apps; fresh normal restart of the phone; creating 2 quick notes from photos Apps
It fix the problem : Notes apps is not crashing anymore!!! Hope it works for others

Was having the same problem and i almost gave up on notes and started using Evernote and OneNote before i found this thread. So far the fix of sharing a pdf or word document to your notes has helped. I still don’t believe it’ll be a lasting fix ..i was hoping iOS 16.02 was going to have this bug fix but it didn’t. Apple needs to fix this asap. Lots of people are going to be irritated that are less forgiving than me
I've just tried one of these suggestions on this thread and it worked.
I went to one of my existing photos in the photo app and then added it to notes -all done on my phone.
iPhone 11 Pro.
So far, it has solved the problem.

Long term notes user with no problems until IOS 16 upgrade. After IOS 16 upgrade notes crashing every time I tried to start notes.
After trying multiple solutions it was clear the crash was due to syncing w iCloud.
A simple fix was a hard push on the icon and creating a new note. For me it was a new picture, others have found other types of note fixes it.
I don’t know why this fixes the syncing problem but it was a lot quicker and easier than the various other things I tried that didn’t work.

Another confirmation! Frickin genius. THANK YOU! Notes are absolutely crucial to my line of work and just daily life.
I also experienced a micro-crash within the Messages app after selecting a document to share with Notes. When I was present with the options of where to put the new note or to add to an existing, it crash that window back to the share window. Bizarre. Thank you, thank you!
Thanks everyone for helping! I’ve had the same issue on my iPad Pro 12.9. The solution was to add a document via share to notes.
