Am I the only one who hates Apple are their forcing ways. Removing Optical drives when MANY still use DVDs. I use my laptop for DVD playback all the time, buying a DVD feels much nicer than using iTunes.
Same for CD installs, what happens when you don't have Internet. Rip-off selling it for a stupid price.
Windows 8 has higher hopes in my books now, for one it'll very likely be CD and USB installed (For tablets needing USB) and it does not force anything upon you.
Personally, I think physical media is dying, digital downloads take up less physical space and the quality is just as good, if not better these days.
eBooks (Kindle, not iBooks....iBooks is too restrictive) are going to replace physical books, I mean with a Kindle you can carry about 3,500 books with you, while you may not need to carry that many books, think about bookshelves you might have at home stuffed with books.
I think Netflix is the wave of the future when it comes to movies. Why buy when you can stream all you want for $8.00/mo.? Netflix needs to get the rights to stream all movies, once that is done (they are getting closer every day), then there is no stopping them.
So, that leaves music.....I think Amazon's cloud setup beats Apple, since you can stream the music, you end up with virtually unlimited storage space on any device that can use it.
Software - App stores are clearly the future and the fact that Apple's app store totally changes the software licensing into the consumers favor is great. Amazon has once again taken it a step further and allowed you to install the software on as many systems as you want, Apple has a limit of 5 I believe.
Now by removing Optical drives, I believe Apple is striving to make this change happen faster, but they are hoping to be the ones to come out on top and for a short while (2-3 years), they will, but unless they make changes, they will loose to Amazon in the long run.
