iPad mini Notes with pencil

I use notes a lot and have just bought the pencil but I can’t find out how to highlight text in notes.

All I want to do is highlight certain words in notes in yellow, I can’t find any way to do it or am I missing something.

Surely this is possible.?

Are you using the Markup tool to highlight? Tap on Markup and select the marker tool (second from left). You can select its width as well as the color opacity. Select a color from the default palette or tap on the multicolor color wheel to fine tune the color. Then simply drag over the text to highlight.
