What exactly does turning on Notes Sync in the mobileme pref on my MacBook and on my iPhone do?

Notes doesn't ever seem to sync up unless I send the NOTE to my email, but in the "Send" function they don't ever resync.

Is there a 3rd option I need to select?

in mail preferences you need to make sure that notes are stored in the MobileMe section and not the On my Mac section

and smilar for the phone, stored in MobileMe and not On my Phone
