Nothing will open on my imac??

Hi all

I have an ipad & iphone & an Imac all of which have the latest OS

I have saved documents on my imac, which I can view ammend etc on the pad & phone, but when I try & open them with numbers or words nothing happens

It gives me the option to delete or duplicate the document & nothing else. Clearly I am doing something wrong, but can't figure out what??

I have signed in on numbers with my @me.com address??

Anyone have any ideas?
