Hi,

I'm planning to upgrade to Mountain Lion when it's available. My question is this: new mail can be shown in the notification center, but does the Mail program need to be open for this to work? Or does this mean I won't have to actively run Mail to see when I have a new e-mail?

Thanks!

It will only show notifications when Maill app is running. If Apple was to support push email for OS X then it would not be required to run Maill app to get notifications.

As far as I can tell it needs to be open which makes the whole thing pointless. Why receive two notifications? 😕
