Guys, is it possible to move 3rd party widgets above the stock Apple widgets?

I have some 3rd party widgets that I'd like above the stock Apple widgets, but can't seem to do this.

When the 3rd party app updates to the new type of widgets, yes. The old style ones are in a list of their own underneath any of the newer ones you have on.

I guess you mean you want to move the old style iOS 13 widgets above the new style iOS 14 ones on the Today View screen. (There are no widgets in the notification centre.)

No, you can't. They all have to stay grouped together at the bottom. I think Apple is doing this to coerce developers into updating their widgets.

It's not so much about 3rd party widgets vs. (stock/native) Apple widgets as much as it is about new iOS 14 widgets vs. old (pre-iOS 14) widgets, with the newer ones being grouped at the top above the older ones.

Apple's way of telling devs to update your widgets so they can drop support for the old style.
Hopefully old style won't really be dropped given that there are certainly still people on iOS 13 and 12 (and earlier) where those widgets are still useful (not to mention that the older widgets are still useful in iOS 14 too).

Agreed. I still prefer some of the old widget styles over the new ones, depending on the app.

Especially since the NC widgets have SO much more functionality then the new widgets, it's unfortunate that Apple has already relegated them to second class citizens.

Anyone else having an issue where the apple stocks widget isn't updating automatically?

No issues here. Mine update periodically throughout the day. You're not going to get real-time updates via the widget.
Don't force-close the Stocks app and enable Background App Updates in settings.

The Today widgets are deprecated, and on borrowed time. Perhaps devs and Apple will use that time to restore some of the functionality that has been lost with the new ones. But I wouldn't bank on that.

Enjoy them as long as you can, or be wary of updates, for both apps and iOS.

I'm sure we'll see the functionality from the current NC widgets return in iOS 16 and be touted as great new feature

Is the small Apple News widget broken? I get updated stories, but no image. With no pictures, it’s ugly. Compared to the NEWSBREAK app widget, which looks great and is customizable with local news. I have the Apple News, Newdbreak local stories and Weather Channel app in a small Smart Stack.

What does that mean for those who are on iOS versions prior to iOS 14?

I don't know, but with each app update I am seeing more of the NC widgets start to disappear. I am not sure if that is just on iOS 14 or not. It's an interesting choice for developers to simply eliminate the NC widgets.

I only really use one widget and that’s the weather app. I had to just fix it to get the temperature from my location(actually 22 miles away as the temperature isn’t working at the reporting station) That’s not on Apple or any other weather app though.

Nothing, if those users don't update their apps to newer versions that have switched to WidgetKit, or future versions of iOS that will lack support for the old API.

Apple has told developers to stop using the old API and will not accept future app submissions that employ it.

Considerate developers who put effort into keeping their users informed will provide warning that a new version of the app may no longer support Today widgets, and those users would be well advised to not download the new version. But many devs will not, and the onus will fall completely on the user to determine if the app has changed.

Similar situations have already played out with 32-bit, etc.

My iPad still happily runs old 32-bit games, and some that are no longer available. But, correspondingly, it is running iOS 10, not 12.

If I were to speculate, I'd say the Today view itself will vanish in the future, and users will have a completely blank canvas to paint as they like in the Springboard, with widgets and apps. My wish would be for Apple to free its death grip on the lock screen, and allow widgets to appear there as well, alongside the time, date, and notifications. Android users can't have all the fun.

Same here.
