I could’ve sworn an audible “ding” just came out of my HomePod when an iMessage text came through to my phone... Is this a thing? Never heard it before nor can I replicate it.

Got this weird thing going on with my AirPlay screen as well. Can’t select my iPhone as an audio source or any of my HomePods/ATVs but music is coming out through my iPhone at this time.

Interesting. I have seen this but only in a very specific situation. I was messing around with shortcuts and ran one that included base64 media output to HomePod. All my phone notification sounds came through the HomePod and my control center looked just like yours with the inability to connect to any other sources. Querying Siri to play something on the HomePod for a hot second reset everything back to normal for me. I figured it was just a hiccup related to the complex shortcut I was making.

Hmm, I wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary. Just standing here about 3 feet away from the HomePod and heard the ding which actually replicated my text message notification sound. That’s how I knew I got a text but it most certainly came out of the HomePod. Cant remember if my phone screen was on or off but I do have my AW on. I want to figure this out lol. Would be awesome to get this to work on purpose somehow.

This happens to me occasionally when I send a message From the HomePod.

If I respond to a message or initiate one through Hey Siri and then get a reply shortly after the notification comes through the HomePod.

Not sure the specifics etc... such as how long after a message comes in after using Hey Siri that the notification will still use the Homepod though.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, that may have been it. I had just texted my wife on the HomePod right before that happened. First time I’ve seen this. I’m gonna test this out later with my wife’s phone when she gets home.

Yep, just happened again under these circumstances. Got a reply fairly quick after sending a HomePod text 👍
