I work outdoors and listen mostly to podcasts with wireless earbuds and am sometimes in a noisy environment.
I don't get an audible "ding" in my earbuds and the notification only goes to my Apple watch 5. I often don't feel the haptic (use powered eqpt), and definitely don't hear the watch.
Am I missing some setting? My Amazfit bip does this with no issues.

I have my phone with me but watch only gets audible alerts
What I mean is that your phone will send audio alerts thru connected BT earphones (as long as you’re not wearing the watch), but the watch will not similarly send audio alerts thru paired BT earphones.

Best solution may be to not wear your watch in that situation if you need to not miss any notifications.

The whole point of having a watch is to wear it. Using the Amazfit bip, I would get an audible through earbuds (music temporarily lowers) then I look at the watch to show if text or email etc. and wouldn't need to fumble for phone underneath rainwear etc.I hope this is possible with the much more advanced AW5

Yeah, not sure what to tell ya. If you can't feel the haptics while using power equipment and can't hear the sounds, you may be SOL. AFAIK, there's no way to force the Apple Watch to send audio notifications to paired BT earbuds.

Maybe feedback to Apple on this might help for the future. I also have this problem as I easily miss the watch haptic if I’m busy doing things. When I’m next anywhere near an Apple store (next April I think), I’m going to get them to check the watch as I’ve read people are finding the haptic too strong and mine is nearly unnoticeable even with it set to prominent.

Problem solved. After talking with Apple and trying a ton of setting changes etc it turned out a simple forget this device in Bluetooth settings and re-pair of earbuds worked. Back to normal.

Looks like I spoke too soon. Fixed very temporarily, it seems the problem is related to Wrist detection.
If I turn WD off, the notifications work as desired. Anyone else has this issue?

It's the way Apple handles notifications with an iPhone and Apple watch connected with wrist detection on. With both connected and wrist detection on if your phone is asleep or screen off then the notification goes through the AW and the AW does not send notifications through Bluetooth. If your iPhone screen is on or being used then the notification goes through the iPhone and sent through Bluetooth.

A workaround you could use while working would be to disconnect the AW from your iPhone (turn off Bluetooth on the AW) that way all your notifications are sent through your iPhone. Or you can turn off wrist detection and will receive notifications on both.

Doesn't Wrist Detection just lock your watch when you're not wearing it?
