notification sounds

Every hour or two I get a notification sound on my iMac - I have not been able to figure out what app is causing this - is there a log kept anyplace on notifications

Click on the icon in the upper right corner of your screen (next to the spotlight symbol) to see if that is what you are looking for. The icon looks like 3 lines of a "bullet" list. Your screen will shift to the left to reveal a list recent mail and other notifications.
