I have tried to stop notifications whenever my browser is invoked. I have tried "notifications" in system preferences and also "spotlight" in system preferences. I don't want to hear the sound whenever I go online.

What is the trick?

Thank you for your help.

Safari and Google Chrome can both do this. Safari should be doing it though the Macs Notification Center, where I know Google Chrome does not. So I would start with that, if you use Chrome that is.

Open the Chrome settings and search for Notifications. It is hidden as a sub-setting, in Content Settings (Or something like that, I not using my Mac on English)
The actual setting has a little bell icon.

For Safari, open the menu "Safari" and click Preferences (Or Settings, I forget what it is in English), then choose the tab "Websites" (Has a blue globe icon). Then click Notifications, it is near the bottom of the list on the left.
Here you can remove the sites that are sending you notifications, and disable the feature all together.

You always have the option to Option-click the icon at the right end of the menu bar, and that temporarily stops/resumes all notifications (sets "Do Not Disturb").

p.s. I'm now curious what Luder99 means...

That little missing letter is not good.
It is very easy to search for translation from Danish to English (hint - no need to translate the number 99) (Someone else can post that result --- not me -- I suspect it would be edited out very quickly)

Yes, for system notifications that little trick will work. But if Chrome sends notifications, it won't work, since Chrome uses its own notification system.

99 don't really know if that is significant, but Luder means uhh, ugly word for "Working girl".

My username is a little xtra to my middlename Lund and my birth year.
