Why are notifications on my iPhone 14 Pro at such a low volume and now not working at all? Yes, I’ve turned up the volume. I’ve also worked with the “change with buttons“ options (the explanation of each seems counterintuitive) both ways while watching the settings volume bar simultaneously, made sure it’s not on silent, airplane, do not disturb or any other mode that would silence anything, and scrutinized every other notification sound I could find in every place from where you can get notifications. Twice. A friend said her husband’s 13 doesn’t make sounds every now and then, either. Surely this isn’t normal?

Did you turn the volume up on them?
Um, yeah. Thanks. If you’d look around, you’d see a plethora of others here asking all sorts of volume questions…without initiating your particular response. I’m not your nor anyone else’s subordinate, so please don’t treat me as such. It’s not a very nice initiation into the forum. Have a great day!

I have a 14 Pro Max and my wife has a 13 Pro. Mine never does that however hers does at times. This might be a basic question but did you try a soft reset? That works on my wife's usually. I read your original post and didn't see you mentioned that.

Edit-
Soft reset: Quickly press and release volume up button, then quickly press and release volume down button, the press and hold the power button until the Apple logo appears.

Good grief. Don’t know why I didn’t think of that! 🤦🏼‍♀️ I did that dozens of times on my X. Why do I make things more complicated that they are?!? I did it and it works again, kind of. Maybe another question coming later. 🤔 Thanks so much!!! 👍🏼😊

No problem. It's easy to forget sometimes when you just want it to work. I know how that goes. You're certainly welcome. I hope it works fine for you. :)

I tend to find my ringtone volume is insanely loud, but the text message dings are very quiet, just assumed it’s the way they normally are

I assume your adjusting volume level in settings/sounds/ringtone and alert volume and not using the side buttons?

Do the side buttons not do the same thing as the "ringtone and alert volume" in settings?
I always looked upon the side buttons as a shortcut to change the volume without having to go into settings.

I’ve tried it with “change with buttons” both on and off. I’ve used the side buttons alone to see if it changes the volume in the settings/sounds/ringtone. It does, even though it says it doesn’t, as I’ve underlined in the pic. Maybe I’m missing something there, or making it harder than it actually is; again. 🤔 I’ve used the volume slider mostly for videos, but I usually end up going back and forth between buttons and slider to check which affects the video volume.

Sorry. Forgot the pic.

I think it depends on whether you’ve got “Change With Buttons” on or off. If you can see the pic I posted in my reply to BugeyeSTI, it doesn’t make sense to me, either. (I’m new. Still learning my way around how to see all the threads and replies.)

I always thought the "change with buttons" allowed you to adjust the volume with the external buttons, and turning it off would disable the external buttons.
But with it turned off, you can still observe the volume changing on the indicator bar on the screen.
I'm still trying to make sense of some things after 15 months of owning this phone (13 Pro - my first "smart phone" of any kind).
Some things are very mysterious! :D

I’ve been a Mac/Apple/IPhone user for years, but that’s the same question I have. It was also a question I had with my X, but that was before I found this forum. Here’s the screenshot I posted in a previous reply.

So I have change with buttons disabled and have the volume line you show maxed out. When I change the volume using the side buttons, that blue line doesn't move only the white vertical line on the left side of the screen that appears moves. My suggestion is to make sure change with buttons is off, restart the phone, set that blue volume line to Max using your finger (your ringer should ring at the loudest level) then see if when you use the side buttons the blue line moves. Here's a pic of my screen:

They do if you have change with buttons enabled. If you don't, they control each separately..

Ok. I’ll try that. Again. (Sorry for the oops Posts and screenshots. Still don’t really know what I’m doing in here. Obviously. 🙄)
