When texting with other parties over Messages, I have a message on my screen that the other person has notifications silenced with the option to "notify them anyway." However, none of the other parties actually have notifications silenced nor Do Not Disturb on. Any idea why my phone thinks they do?

All devices are on iOS 16.0.2

This is happening to me. I think it might be related to a Focus Mode being on (not Do No Disturb). It's not clear to me how to fix it though.

I just created a thread about this is well...People keep asking why my notifications are silenced when they shouldn't be according to my settings in focus.

I think this is related to focus modes. I made a thread here about tying to understand notifications when a focus mode is active.

I believe that in the setup for a focus mode, if "Silence Notifications From" is selected, you will continue to receive notifications from apps/contacts as long as you haven't added them to have their notification blocked. That works to allow notifications to come through.

However, I discovered that you also have to go into Settings > Focus > Focus Status and toggle off "Share Focus Status" or "Share From" for individual focus modes. If these are toggled on and the focus mode is active on your device, it seems that others will still be notified that your notifications are turned off even if those contacts are allowed to notify you in that focus mode. Seems like an oversight on Apple's part. Hope that is clear. There is also a "Share Focus Status" toggle for individual contacts in the Messages app (as long as it is a thread with only one person and not a group thread).

I don't have any focus modes on and neither does the other party but I still see the "Notifications Silenced" message.

I have the same problem. I have a sleep focus set up, but it’s not active during the day. Allow notifications is on for Messages. However, when I send a text the recipient sees that I have notifications silenced. Does anyone know how to fix this?

iOS 16.1 on 12PM

I had the same issue, then I noticed my girls iPad focus notifications was set to share, I have her focus set to always, so the silence was actually the iPad, make sure you don’t have any device with you account with the focus set during the day.

I have an iPad and an iPhone, but both use only the Sleep focus mode.
