My wife every other day tells me on her phone it shows my notifications are silenced, when I have bot activated anything. I go into messages and FOCUS is turned off as it should be, and I have to turn it on and back off then it disappears from her phone. This has been happening since iOS15 on my new phone.

Any way to stop this, considering I am not activating FOCUS mode? I am running 15.0.1 :)

Is this in messages? Swipe left on your message and make sure Mute is not turned on.

Yes in messages, I have not muted anything nor turned on FOCUS mode, but as stated if I go into the messages settings and it shows FOCUS as turned off, but if I turn it on and right back off, it removes that notifications silenced message from my wifes phone when she looks at messages between us. So it has something to do with FOCUS mode I think.

What do you mean swipe left in messages?

Sounds like a bug. All I can think of trying is updating to the latest version.

I'm having the same issue -- also with my wife. Maybe it's a new feature? LOL.

She sends a message, and sees the notice that says I have notifications silenced. She chooses to notify anyway, and it notifies me.

Happened on 15.0.1, and now on 15.0.2. I've checked the following:
  • The only Focus I've setup is DnD. It is OFF.
  • The iMessage conversation is not silenced. (i.e., no "bell with slash" icon, left swipe shows option to silence).
  • On her contact record, the "Hide Alerts" setting is OFF.
  • In Settings, Notifications, Messages -- "Allow Notifications" is ON, all three options checked (Lock Screen, Notification Center, Banners).
Anywhere else to check?

Ok, an update...

When my wife first mentioned seeing the notice that I had my notifications silenced, I looked around on my iPhone and Focus was off, but I did find the conversation was muted. I unmuted it, she sent another message, and all looked fine. So I thought maybe it was related to that, but it happened several times the next day. That's when I made my earlier post (above).

Tested more with "muted conversations" -- and muting a conversation does NOT produce any kind of response to the sender. So I don't think muting is in any way related. Apparently only Focus (with Share Focus on) tells the sender your notifications are silenced. And I didn't have any Focus turned on when she got the notice (though it had been on earlier in the day).

So I'm just thinking its a straight up intermittent bug. Maybe something about turning Focus OFF not always getting reflected on the server, so senders still see the notice. Hopefully it will get addressed soon (like in 15.1, as stated above).

Glad someone else sees it and its not just us!! LOL. Thank you!!

Swipe from right to left on your message, make sure the bell is not activated.

Thanks for that as just had the same problem and really couldn't find the answer and this was IT !!!!

Edit I thought it had but my partner still getting this on iMessages from me -

Yeah still happens to us weekly, we have to go into settings turn Focus On (Was in the off position) and then back off and that clears it. But it happens again within a week. Not sure why.

Interesting. I don't think I can confirm seeing the physical message about "notifications being silenced" in the message app but I have a similar issue were off and on, notifications will come in silent. I don't have an apple watch(apparently, this can also cause this issue if you do). So far, disabling the "Share across devices" on the focus page seemed to help but I believe I still received at least one notification that was silent. For me, this started on 15.1, has not seemed to improve or get worse.

Yeah, definitely a bug I’ve noticed before amongst several contacts. The only focus mode I use is do not disturb, which is scheduled from 10 PM to 7 AM. A few weeks ago my wife got home from work one evening, and said that when she went to message me she saw the Notification at the bottom of the iMessage screen that I had notifications silenced, which was not the case.

I’ve also been on the other end of that where I went to message my boss during the workday, and got the same message that he had notification silenced. When I asked him about it, he said he did not have any focus modes on at that time. Same happens with a friend off and on. Just another half baked iCloud feature implementation that needs to be ironed out it seems.

Yup, same, we only use the Do Not Disturb from 11pm-7am and other from that, nothing. I am wondering if Apple is even aware of this issue as its been a bug since iOS15 came out, and we are almost into March with no fix yet.

This is happening to me and my wife now. We have turned off all settings in Focus. Nothing is muted. Called Apple they walked us through both phones all settings. Got her to admit she is seeing a lot of this. It’s completely random. This is bad. I missed a call and texts from my wife asking for help as she was stuck with a dead car battery.

So I chatted to Apple support on Monday over the phone and got escalated to 2nd level who said reset the phone settings which I did which made no difference to the Notifications Silenced problem but meant my FaceID was reset so my FirstDirect banking app didnt work which then took 35 mins on the phone to them to reset......Grrrrrrrr

I will ring them again Monday but it does seem like they dont have a clue....

I have the same issue! It happened shortly after the ios update. I only experience it with some contacts. Not sure if its their bug or something else!

Still happens quite often on both mine and my wife’s phone and I notice many of my contacts always show silenced as well
