Is it possible to have your watch notify you if you're out of range from your iPhone? The icon shows up but it's silent.

That would be nice, as I go out of range sometimes but don't realise until I wonder why I'm not getting an notifications.
But I think if you're on the edge of the range, you might be notified that you're in and out of range repeatedly. Could get annoying.
What I would like is a 'glance' to see the phones status, eg. Phones battery level and current cellular network.

Now that I have the watch, I'm losing my habit of checking to see if my phone is in my pocket every time I leave a room. It's only a matter of time before I leave the phone somewhere and never see it again. It would be nice if the watch alerted you to being out of range...much like the Galaxy Note lets you know if you've left the pen behind.

Yep that has happened to me and then my wife today. Fortunately both times the phone was at home, but it was a pain to have to go back to get it.

My phone sits on my counter at home and my desk at work now. It's very freeing to be able to walk around without it.

This to me is the KILLER feature reviewers keep looking for.

+1 for this. Looking forward to being able to leave my phone at my desk or coffee table and free up my pocket. :)

The Op should post this as a feature request :)

How do you know they missed it? I'm very sure it's going to be in the next software update. It just couldn't be included in the initial release.

Pretty big, simple miss for them to leave out on the initial release. It's a feature that has existed since the 80's or 90's (for keys and such) in one form or another. There is no way it is beyond their skills. Why leave it out considering how tied to the phone the watch is?

This may be something hat will be addressed by a third party app. I believe that is what happened with my Pebble watch. Originally it did not warn you if you got out of range of the phone, but now the watch face reverses color and the watch vibrates.

This still does not garauntee that I will notice it, however, as I sometimes mistake it for an mail notice and do not look at the watch immediately. You'll understand after you've had your watch for a while.

Android Wear devices have a small icon pop up on the watch face of a cloud with a line through it showing you lost connection. Something this subtle would be great on the Apple Watch.

Agree.

I also love this third party app that I downloaded for my Moto 360 called Wear Aware - Phone Finder. Every time I go out of range of my phone, the watch vibrates and shows this big red screen on the watch. Hard to not notice it.

I think another big miss was the calculator. Why Apple did not include one is sort of silly. Not a big deal, since you have can download third party versions.

This really shouldn't be a 3rd party app function. Seeing as how they built the :apple: watch to a iPhone extender/dependent why would they not let you know you are not connected?

The watch does show a small red phone icon as you drift out of range, so it shouldn't be a big deal to add an alert when this happens.

Did I miss an announcement of this feature or is this not something they are going to incorporate with 2.0?

That's actually what the Apple Watch already does. I accidentally left my phone in the car the other day, and looked at my watch for something but it had an unfamiliar icon at the top. I think it was an iPhone with a line through it, if I remember correctly. Just basically saying it is too far away, lost connection.

What the OP would like is a more active notification (vibration, sound, etc), rather than only the passive icon.

I had the original Pebble, it vibrated on disconnect from your phone, a couple of time I was at car door when it vibrated, never left without phone, a tether warning would be good.

There were reports of this feature being worked on by Apple last month in connection with them setting up "Find my Watch" where you would have the option to turn on alerts for when your iPhone becomes out of range from your Watch. (Link below)

Check out the app RemoteBattery. Much like Notification Center widget utility apps, it's only function is showing your iPhone battery percentage on your Apple Watch. I use it as my "primary" Glance on my Watch.

I purchased that app and have been using it... it updates really slowly though, I haven't found it great as a glance. Hopefully speeds up in os2.

Hmm, do you allow the app to run in the background? It is one of a handful of my apps that I leave background app refresh on for and it updates quite quickly in my Glances with almost a negligible load time when I check it. Both the update from Watch OS 1.0 to 1.0.1 as well as the most recent update to the app itself helped speed it up as well, as I noticed same as you it was moving really slow.

I too had the pebble and I never lost my phone in all the time I had it. With my apple watch however I have almost lost my phone twice. I'm so lucky someone handed my phone in or it would have been a $1,300 loss. I need this feature on my apple watch, does anyone know of an app that can notify me via a vibration if my phone goes out of range?

There is an app called LowBattery, the developer has gotten it to the point it updates quickly in Glances as long as the iPhone app is running in the background.
