Good evening.

AirTag delivered earlier & impressed with the little device. Set up very quickly , renamed & emoji selected.

There is a setting ‘ Notify When Found ‘ however this is greyed out & I can’t switch it on.

What am I doing wrong or missing here ?

Cheers

So if it gets lost, you can turn on Lost Mode. And then this option will turn on to notify you when its location gets updated.

So what distance constitutes lost ? My wife hid the keys at end of garden & I went & stood in my front lounge. A good 40 - 50 Mts & it was still greyed out.

Wondering the same thing
EDIT : @Apple_Robert is right but before activating there is written "This feature can only be enabled when you're not close proximity of this item"

The way the interface is designed, it looks like “Enable Lost Mode” is a separate setting, instead of “Notify When Found” being a feature of Lost Mode.

Notify when found can be turned on without lost mode.

But it can only be turned on when the tag has not been seen recently so its location is not up to date, as when the tag location is known there is nothing to notify you about.

I just tried it. Take the battery out your air tag, wait a few minutes, turn on that toggle.

Put battery back in the tag and wait a few minutes and you get a notification, and the toggle is back off as it has been seen.
