It's possible to have a notification pop up on your watch when your iPhone is left behind, but is it possible to have the reverse happen, so I don't leave my watch behind on the charger or while out and about and happening to have taken it off?

Do tell. I’ve done this a time or two but never looked for this feature.

It’s not supported for the Watch. I vaguely remember the Find My app actually stating that in the Watch settings with the initial release of iOS 15 but I don’t see it anymore.

In case you’re interested, there’s an app called Phone Buddy that works really well for iPhone left behind notifications and when leaving your watch behind as well. I was hoping Apple’s implementation of this feature would be outstanding, but it’s been a buggy mess for me so far, with all devices. Getting notified I left my AirPods behind while they’re in my ears and connected lol.

Let me be more specific, has anyone seen this in any of the beta releases? Or heard word that it may be enabled later?

The current watch OS does not have this feature but there are several apps that provide the feature you ask. I use phoneBuddy and it has saved me from losing my iPhone.

+1 for Phone Buddy. I’ve been with Phone Buddy for a long time but always hoped for a native Apple solution because I always though that 1st party integration would be so much better. Boy was I wrong. With the nose dive Apple took in software quality over the past few years, Find My has been a heaping pile of warm donkey dung in iOS 15, for me at least. These left behind notifications in Find My are completely unreliable. Phone Buddy is a top notch app and support is up there as well.

More than 2 years after this post was made and Apple still don't offer a "notify when left behind" option for Apple Watch.

I find it so strange, iPhone can receive "left behind" notifications for Macs, iPads, other iPhones, why isn't there an option to activate something like this for your AW? I don't understand why isn't this offered. From a technical POV it doesn't look like something difficult to do.

Does Phone Buddy affect the normal drain of your battery through the day? This is the main reason why I have not liked 3rd-party apps that track location in 3-4 years ago when I tested, the ones I tried were a battery killer

Possibly because you wear a watch. It's not the same as a Mac, iPad, iPhone in that regard. Combined with a much smaller amount of battery headroom, maybe it's just not something that they have decided makes sense to implement?
