Heres one, maybe an old idea, but its a folder of solid colors files that is set up to gradually change into each other by setting the "change picture" option to "every minute" or "every 5 seconds".
Of course this is pretty simple, but I thought I wasted enough time setting these 30 files up!

My wife was taking family pictures with the digital camera, which she is trying to learn to use... and she dropped the camera, and in the process, snapped this shot that is now my desktop
