as the subject says, I am a novice when it comes to GPUs. I currently have a 2016 15" MacBook Pro that has a snow effect when switching desktops, while watching movies. I came from a 2012 15" MacBook Pro that had pretty much the same issues. Both would also scramble when switching desktops. This isn't an all the time occurrence but it does happen quite a bit. Now, my question, is this caused by iGPU or dGPU? I am confused but which is causing the trouble. I keep reading that dGPU is what's causing some issues. any real explanation would be helpful, since I am taking this one in this week. thanks in advance!

You could install gfxCardStatus which will allow you to set the Mac to use either iGPU or dGPU without switching. This may help you determine which GPU is causing the issue.
