I've been waiting to buy a pair of AirPods to see long term reviews of them, and now most the reviews I see are positive except long term battery life... I'm not in a rush to buy, but of someone where to take a guess when do you think gen2 AirPods will be announced/released?

I am in the same boat as you, have been looking at them for a couple of weeks. Since I do not need them I do not want to rush and get them and have the second generation release a month later.

I just got a set from my wife for Christmas. I’m wondering if an updated version is being released soon. Do you think they will be much different?

Not sure if now is the time to buy or not, but they seem to be sold out everywhere. Apple is saying you won’t get them until the 9th of Jan if you order today, and in-store pickup isn’t available until the 11th (at least in the surrounding Seattle area).

I would say it is a good time to buy. All the speculations have been minor upgrades on a version 2. Wireless charging case potentially and "Hey Siri" support. Neither of these things would make me run out and get the new ones. I received my AirPods roughly December 23 2016. They are over 2 years old and the batteries are perfectly fine for my usage. I don't have them in for hours each day. Usually just when working out, running errands, and mowing the lawn/outdoor work. I have only had them die on me once and it was because I actually forgot they were in my ears.

Yeah its weird, they are sold out around here too, apple says earliest delivery is the 11th as of today, Bestbuy online goes from in stock to out of stock every few days too.

Indeed. I picked up a pair of Jabra 65t active in the mean time. They sound excellent, but man do they give me a headache. I don’t know if I’m using the wrong size tips (using medium currently) or what it is. Never had a problem with in-ear before. However I can say that you hear zero outside noise with these turned on.

Considering second gen rumors are just hey siri and a wireless case, im sitting out gen 2...wake me when they have volume controls on them in gen 3...until then gen 1 is fine

I'm currently saving up for the Airpods, and i was just as on the fence as you are now.
I know you can't really trust rumours too much when it comes to new tech that could be coming out this year but if the second gen is really just about a better Siri and wireless charging? I think i'll get the Airpods relatively soon. I feel like the second gen could be announced around the Summer time or in September, but i honestly don't think that they'll announce anything greater than what's been said above. The Airpods are still as popular as ever right now and it's almost near impossible to get your hands on a brand new pair anywhere, but my closest Apple Store seems to have some available this month! They might just try to see how long the hype will last for them before announcing anything to do with the second/third gen...

I currently have these Savfy Wireless Earbuds, i think i've had them for around 3 years? They've lasted me up until last month, where i dropped them for probably the 4th time in their lifetime and now the left side doesn't work quite as well as it did, it drops connection a lot more than it did before, it doesn't sound quite right and doesn't notify me anymore when it's connecting to my phone... :( They were great earbuds, but with all the Airpod review videos that i've been watching lately, they're not quite on level with Apple's earbuds, so yeah, i'll be jumping on the Airpod bandwagon as soon as i'm able to this year, hopefully sooner rather than later :p :apple:
