No control over updates. They happen invisibly, which means I have to relearn an app UI every few weeks, plus they're laggy in a lot of places. The phrase 'you get what you pay for' is relevant in this area. After a few years, they get 'unsupported' which goes so far as to have all apps stop working. Been there with a now paperweight Roku XD. Most 'unsupported' devices such as my Tab 2 10.1 from 2012 can still use Netflix, but the Roku XD for all intents and purposes is dead.

Sorry, but I don't play that consumerism game. I keep things for life. So far the only annoyance the Apple TVs have is the update screen. One wrong click and I'm relearning the whole thing again. I just spam the 'menu' remote button to skip past it during wakeup, and immediately force the screen saver on when I'm done. Sucks to not be able to pause though.

It'd just be nice to have peace of mind to just do what I want and not be bothered by anything. Especially unnecessary 'updates'. With my S20 FE I got just that--I can easily turn all updates and their nags off via NetGuard VPN and disabling unnecessary notifications.

So I'm smart and read manuals and accept responsibility for my actions. Yeah, I'm not one of the ignorant masses. You say that as if it were a bad thing.
 
Windows 10 being the last version of windows was intended but the result apparently has changed. Microsoft plans on retiring Windows 10 in 2025, and Windows 11 is the last version of Windows as yet.

The whole Windows 10 being the 'last version of Windows' was coinciding with Mac OS X being the 'last version of Mac OS' that is, until Big Sur became OS 11. I guess Windows competes by also going to version 11. It is very Mac-like.

I just shrugged off either one and went Linux. I have far more control over Linux than any 'mainstream' OS.
 
I had windows 11, was nice but the aggressive over-riding of graphics drivers was annoying, so I reinstalled 10 until 11 is ready for mainstream. There were workarounds but nothing that 100% fixed my issues.
Plus asides from looks, there was no tangible performance benefits, the menus for control looked nicer but were worse to use.

Let's see what happens when it's officially released, not just insider program.
