Earlier this month I complained about my iPhone 12 Pro dropping from 97% to 95% when I went to check it.

I was alerted by this when I decided to check my battery health, and that my iPhone dropped from 100% to 97% near the end of April after an update.

It feels like last week (or two) that my iPhone dropped from 95% to 94%.

Now today, my battery health went to 93%. My iPhone dropped more than two percent in almost a month?!

I barely use my iPhone when I’m at home. It’s not always charging. I use MagSafe as my primary charger, but I never had issues with wireless chargers in the past. My previous iPhones never dropped this far down or this fast either. I never cared about battery health since I knew I was going to upgrade by then, but I was intending on keeping this iPhone for more than a year, but now my battery quality seems to be terrible?

Screen on time is roughly 3-4 hours. Standby looks normal though.

coconutBattery reports 92% yesterday. I haven’t had this iPhone for more than half a year and it’s already dropping fast. Ugh.

Is this a defective battery? I really hope the battery health estimate is faulty like it was on the iPhone 11 Pro that needed recalibration, but everyone else is reporting better numbers.

edit: With 168 charge cycles according to coconutBattery

What makes this worse is that the iPhone 12 I got for my Dad on launch day is still 100% to this day. Whereas my iPhone 12 Pro which got delayed to get to me is now 93%.

You need to try and stop obsessing over your phone battery. If you can't stop obsessing, contact Apple and have them do a remote test on the phone. Maybe that will give you some real peace of mind.
Why shouldn’t I be obsessing? The battery health is dropping rapidly. That should be a cause for concern considering plenty of people are still at or near 100%

I will contact Apple tomorrow and verify.

But it’s still an issue for a $2000+ iPhone that I paid for, that needs to be opened up and replaced, which concerns me about affecting water resistance. Not to mention I’ll have to pay Apple for a premium to install a screen protector again. Never mind that, I already paid like $60 for a screen protector for them to install not that long ago.

The battery health reading is a guesstimate. It isn't meant to be taken literally. Apple doesn't even use that reading to determine battery health. The health reading is nothing more than something to placate the masses because Apple got in trouble a few years back.

I had a similar issue with my XS a year or so ago and Apple replaced my battery under Apple Care. Battery health went down 5% in 3 months and the phone seemed to lose battery percentage a lot faster. I was using same screen time daily but a full charge wasn’t getting me to the same point during the day. I had to take a small battery pack with me.

Regardless, it’s still dropping quick. Even for an estimate, that’s a sign of something odd is happening. We’ll see the Apple support says tomorrow.

Screen on time for me seems rather low compared to everyone else. I barely use my this iPhone at home and when I do use it in general, it’s light usage.

And I just typically don’t like getting repairs unless I really don’t have a choice.

You could have an app that has a bug and is using more battery than it is supposed to. When you look in settings, what apps are using the most battery?

In the last 10 days, YouTube, Safari, Notes, Reminders, and FaceTime are the worst offenders.

However my FaceTime calls (on wifi) is roughly around 10 mins. And they’re not frequent.

Keep in mind that I also rarely use this phone at home too. When I’m at home it’s mostly music, notes, and reminders.

My iPhone 11 Pro Max is over a year old and charged almost every night. Still at 96%. My old 2 year iPhone XS Max’s battery health was higher than the OP’s iPhone 12.

Something is definitely wrong with the OP’s battery or the phone’s reporting.

Also, OP, disregard coconutBattery. It said my iPad’s battery was at a certain health level when it was higher. It also doesn’t report the same percentage that my
Phone does either. Who knows how accurate coconutBattery’s charge cycle count is either??

why must you be so concerned of your going to upgrade this year anyway? even apple says 80% after 2 years is normal. you’ll be alright
At the current rate, the battery in his phone may drop below 80% in less that 2 years.

If he doesn’t plan on keeping it longer that 4-6 more months with this year’s model on the way, he shouldn’t care.

There is a group of us already discussing this issue:

I am not planning to upgrade this year. I have been upgrading on a yearly basis though, and ironically this is the year I get the defective battery.

the rate of my battery decreasing is a concern

Yeah, I checked my parents phone, since I give them my older devices as well. And my old iPhones like the iPhone XS is still at 94% :/

I really wonder what Apple support will find from the battery diagnostic tomorrow

I'm pretty sure Apple won't find anything wrong with it and unless it drops below 80% within the warranty period they won't replace it for free. If you want to pay for a battery replacement that's another story..

They replaced mine at 96% for free, you just need to be firm and tell them it’s not acceptable and ask to escalate the situation if they don’t help.

Very rare.. I wouldn't count on any help, sounds like you complained enough that they just gave in or you got a sympathetic rep..

Lmao, this was unnecessarily hostile

Anyway, if you’ve been keeping up, I wouldn’t want a battery replacement even if they offered it at all.

Hostile? 🤣 Welcome to the internet! There you go I cleaned my hostile post for you..
Hmm, that doesn’t make you sound any less of a jerk, but ok

Regardless he still got help from Apple, and both methods you boldly assumed seem to have worked. Kinda makes what you say moments before pointless. 🤷🏻

Tried Apple Support chat twice and I was told by the first rep that I should let the phone discharge fully before plugging it in to charge it. Second rep didn't do any troubleshooting and sent me to a website about factors that can cause battery drain. Neither rep was helpful in terms of addressing why battery drain has accelerated within the past month.

I use Battery Grapher and previously got 34h total battery life (~3% battery drain per hour). That now has dropped to total battery life of 24h. There is a bigger issue at hand here that is not being addressed.

My phones fine, you're the one with the notion something's wrong with your device. Let us know what Apple tells you. The people who have been on this forum for long enough to realize how many threads like yours show up all the time know how Apple approaches the situation. Every once and awhile they throw customers a bone like the forum member you think I was "hostile" to.. Hopefully you'll get some insight from Apple and can get a remedy to your situation

It just came off to me that you were being hostile from how I perceived your post, because of the words and emojis you used.

So sorry if you weren’t really being hostile, I’m not sorry if you are being disingenuous.

Not being hostile and definitely can relate to having issues with an expensive device and not a whole hell of a lot of help from the mothership (Apple)
