I don’t know about you but after my experiences, I am not even willing to find out how the 2019 keyboards is.

Lets see what the redesign brings. Sadly, I suspect a very similar keyboard to what is around now.

I'm standing back and watching (that's my analogy) at the moment. I haven't seen anyone reporting issues with the 2019 MBP so far, but it's very early days. I'm also baring in mind that there is going to be a redesign at some point. It may be October this year or more likely it will be next year (4 year design cycle based on Apple's previous releases).

I'm not going to lie, i'm very intrigued to see where Apple is going with the next design, will they make it a little thicker for better thermals? will they expand on the Touch Bar? maybe add haptics. Will Apple add a 4K and or OLED screen (it's been rumoured).

I am also intrigued by the next design, however I am pretty sure the next keyboard will be very similar or identical to the one now. A smaller keyboard was one of the last things that Apple needed to change to fully commit to their “thin and sexy” design aesthetic on the MacBooks.
I think they are very proud of their clicky, low travel direction and don’t see them going anywhere else.
Personally, everything about the 13 inch MacBook pros was working great for us, besides the keyboards, which makes it even more aggravating. 14 out of 18 machines!

I personally don’t see how they could come up with a new laptop design other then borderless or a very small border screen.

We have reached the top of innovation of tech, apple has pushed prices up so they have the same profits - due to less people upgrading.

I'm up for bezeless display actually... I get kinda envious of Dell XPS Line in terms of that

I feel like that also. I don't think apple will make these any thinner they are about as thin as they can be unless they start putting components behind the screen.I don't expect a refresh to be a complete new design honestly. Slimmer bezels and maybe some small details but mostly the same. Thats why im ok with getting a 2019 model. Back in 2015 they could completely change the design compared to those models.

If it wasn't for the keyboard, i would of purchased a 13" by now. I simply can't take the risk at the moment, the 2019 keyboard doesn't have enough evidence that it's been fixed or not. Yes i could get it fixed if it breaks, however as someone who writes EVERYDAY, i simply rely on my Mac to do that. Also sending it into Apple will take at least 24 hours for a fix. Yes i have a 2012 iMac (which i'm using to write with at the moment) but the inconvenience simply isn't worth the risk.

There are 2 things i'm personally looking for from Apple, a new Macbook Pro with a fixed keyboard and a redesigned iMac (the reason i haven't upgraded my iMac for the home office). I'm hoping that Apple delivers at least one of these things either in October of this year or next year.
The thing is i don't like Windows, i brought a Surface Pro 6 in November of last year, i learned that lesson fast. It's ok but Windows still isn't anywhere near as good as MacOS. So in a sense Apple have got me cornered, it's nothing new tho, it's been that way since i brought my first Mac back in 2011, it really was the perfect machine (for me).

14 our of 18? that is REALLY bad :eek: the thing is i fear Apple are damaging the Mac brand, if i've held off buying how many others have been thinking the same :confused:

And before other people start saying i'm hating on Apple, i'm really not. I'm a big Apple fan, i own nearly every Apple product there is (Watch, iPhone, iPad Pro, Mac, Apple TV 4K, HomePod), BUT i do think they have made a mistake with the current keyboards. They need to fix them or redesign it. (hopefully they have fixed the keyboard with the 2019 update).

Has anyone bought the base model 15" (6 core)? or do most go for the 8 core? just haven't seen much regarding the differentiation on here... $400 difference, kind of steep!

To be honest, before I bought my MacBook Pro I didn't consider it at all. If you start reading forums, then you almost always read about issues people are facing with their devices. Of course I know about the keyboard issues, but I somehow hope that they will not affect me, or if they do, I will deal with them.
I am more than happy with my MBP (for now).

Why should someone get Applecare for the MBP? The keyboard is covered for four years anyway. In Germany we have two years limited warranty. Applecare + gives me peace of mind but that comes at a price. I do not plan in keeping my MBP for more than three years anyway, so an Applecare seems an unattractive package for me. Applecare is good if you are not taking care your devices and you drop them a lot..

Really shows you who the U.S. government is working for doesn't it? Hint: not the people

It's 6 core to 8 core and 256 GB to 512 GB SSD.

It's steep but not even Apple steep worth mentioning like 1 TB to 2 TB SSD for an extra $600 or $999 for a monitor stand ;)

If you didn’t get AppleCare on any laptop Apple made in the last 10 years than that’s your mistake. Older machines had plenty of issues.

Does anyone know if apple care covers drops, liquid spills, etc? The person at Apple store said it did (when I got it)...

AppleCare does not
AppleCare+ does

In the US AppleCare+ is the only thing you can purchase unless you call Apple and order AppleCare. So if you purchased in store you likely have AppleCare+. Either way you can check coverages and Apple will confirm with you have.

I've used Apple Care on every laptop I've purchased from Apple in the past 15 years. Usually for battery degradation since I use the heck out of these machines. My day one 12" 2015 MacBook has over 2100 cycles on it - over three batteries - two of which were replaced under Apple Care. Those are $200 each so Apple Care easily paid for itself. I also had a couple keyboard replacements and both a top and bottom case replacement. Probably over $1000 worth of repairs and I think I used eBay to buy Apple Care for $150.

I would never pay $2500 for a new MBP and then not cover it with Apple Care - but that's me.

It is never a good time to buy stuff you don't need. If you are thinking hard about buying anything, you are not in the market and you are just feeding your own vanity. If you have disposable income and don't get hurt by the acquisition, you should you feed some money into the Apple octopus.

Well i just pulled the trigger on a 13" base Macbook Pro with 512GB SSD. I hope i don't live to regret this (with the keyboard issue). I just couldn't wait any longer.

With MacOS Catalina the Mac is going to get better with SideCar, a feature i will use daily. I just hope they have fixed the keyboard issues :cool:

I've also given up and just bought a new 13" MBP. I picked the top default and bumped it up to 16GB of RAM. My wife needs a laptop and she can have my 2013 13". In six years, for roughly the same price, I've gone...

* Up a little from a 2.8GHz 2-core i7 to 2.4GHz 4-core i5
* Still 16GB RAM
* Down from a 1TB SSD to a 512GB SSD
* Down from a decent full keyboard to touchbar
* Down from one SD card port to zero

I miss Moore's Law.

I bought a bluetooth magic keyboard in the hope I'll rarely have to open it and risk dust getting in, or seeing that touch bar.

To celebrate such a good purchase I've also bought a 12" Macbook as that was on sale for 1/3 the price of the MBP, so I can leave that on the sofa instead of carrying the MBP out of the office with a string of dongles. Hoping the charging cable doesn't dissolve in the way the previous one did.

So yeah, I think it could be the best time to buy a MBP, since 2013/4/5. Because it's not getting much better.

sounds like you hate the machine haha. All those things aren't a huge deal to me over form factor. One "dongle" and you're fine. Give the other things a shot you might end up liking them.

To this day, i've never bought it for any of my apple products including a used 2016 Touch Bar. Never had an issue.
