It's not like it is but for some people the S stands for something. 3GS is speed, 4s is Siri, 5s is security, soon 6s is for screen. the whole time it was 6s for the screen

I always thought the 5S stood for sensor, but that's debatable. What is it about the screen you think is noteworthy? I'm hearing a near sapphire level hardness, is that it?

S for Screen - force touch/new screen resolution... all rumors that is until confirmation tomorrow.

iPhone 3GS: "S" is "Speed"
iPhone 4S: "S" is "Siri"
iPhone 5S: "S" is "Security"
The 3GS was meant that way, the 4S was more of an afterthought it seems (since it only came out later and they just sort of just attributed it to it in a sense), the 5s I don't recall Apple really commenting on the 's' aspect of it.

S stands for nothing. Only in 3GS it had a meaning given by Apple in its keynote. On the other models it was just a naming convention for a model that keeps the same exterior design as the previous model.
