A basic example is having 3 possible ways to open the camera from the lock screen. I also don't need a dashboard if I can plonk widgets on the home screen.

No, there shouldn’t only be one way. While some accessibility appears pointless or redundant, it doesn’t mean there should be just one.

Do you really use copy and paste one way? Do you open apps one way? Do you only control music one way? Etc. I’m not sure if you ever considered how much of your actions have been accomplished in multiple ways.

It sounds like you want Apple to just cater to you. I use the dashboard to store my widgets, just let there be options.

Apple gives options. And this statement comes off blindsided.

Apple’s customers play a role in how Apple does things too. If not for Apple users, we wouldn’t have seen the scissor switch return, not have surveillance baked into our phones, get highly requested features, etc.

It’s not one sided. Only loyalists who let big tech think for them instead of thinking for themselves are likely to believe this, because any criticism towards Apple makes them believe it’s a personal attack.

Reachability would like a word.

Reachabikity is a fudge, a sticking plaster for the iPhone 6 until such time as they rebuilt iOS for larger screens. Since then they've never bothered.

As for choice: would you put 3 handles on a door? 3 steering wheels in your car? Apple could move the control center to the camera swipe gesture to make it easier to reach and have it sit to the right of the multitasking cards in normal use.

What I want is a well designed OS that isn't full of vestiges nobody thought to develop further.

It's even worse on iPadOS.
