use VMware Fusion to delete bad driver

I ran into this problem two days ago when installing Boot Camp and Windows 7 x64 on my 27" iMac. After I installed Boot Camp 3.0 and rebooted, the screen blacked out due to the bad display driver, as people have reported. I fixed it by rebooting into Snow Leopard, opening up my Boot Camp partition in VMware Fusion, and deleting the bad ATI driver that had been installed (Start menu -> command prompt -> right click, run as administrator -> run "del C:\Windows\System32\drivers\ati*.sys"). Then I rebooted into Windows, it used the default display driver, and I installed the Boot Camp 3.1 update, after which all was well.

Why is life so hard?

I understand. My problem is that AAPL should have made this much more simple. When I converted from PC to Mac in Jan 10, I was under the impression that I could load Win 7 and run all my PC games with no problem. I did research boot camp and I did call customer support prior to purchase, I guess I heard what I wanted to hear. I thought boot camp 3.1 and all these drivers would fix the problem, but it still Black Screen of Death.

All in all I love my new iMac computer and if APPL stock ever goes to 300 a share it will be free (well almost). So I load Win7 on my old PC and game away.
