I think this is a fair point re price for what you’re getting. But the higher end models are purely for aesthetic reasons. I’ve worn my SS watch everyday (series 0, got it at launch). The same point you make could be said for shoes or a suit or whatever, in terms of price, and similarly wear out. I dare say the Apple Watch is a better deal if it lasts even 3 years. I have three year old shoes that show far more wear. A purely functional wordrobe is cheaper than one with style. So you’re right about the tech, but that ignores that you wear this device and people see you wearing it. If I’m going to have a watch on everyday, I don’t want the toy-ish looking aluminum model.

No one cares if it’s “supposed” to hold value or not. The fact is that if you buy an Apple care and resell it when you’re done, it’s usually still worth something as there’s a good market for selling it. Doesn’t matter if that’s the “purpose” or not. Everything has a value and Apple products tend to carry theirs.

If too many people on this forum have a warped idea then maybe just not read the forum at all?

I think others simply forget (Or don’t know) that tech devices don’t hold value. That’s how it is and always will be. Apple Watches, iPads, iPhones, TV’s all decrease in value because they become obsolete devices that will no longer see support and will require hardware replacements overtime. And of course, A newer and better product will supersede the current product, which decreases the value.

Apple traditionally do slightly better at resale than others though. One totally inexact check showed a minimal spec September 2016 released 7+ on Verizon selling for $60 more than a minimal spec S8 from April 2017 ($380 vs $320). Launch prices were $769 and $750 respectively.

That said, all consumer gadgets loose money as a rule, the difference being the level of depreciation by vendor.

Apparently, the OP was concerned about value. Hence, my comment.

A lot of people having what I consider a warped perspective when it comes to their Apple product does not equate to everyone on the forum. A lot of people on here do treat their products like museum pieces and purchase AppleCare just for the resale of their product, which amounts to spending more money to lose money on the resale. To me, that is bad financial reasoning predicated by the warped view of what Apple products are, disposable electronics.

If I had an ongoing problem with the forum, I wouldn't still be here.

It works much better when you don't inject things into my post that I did not say, especially when you are finding fault in your own words, not mine.
