The iMac desk is pretty cool looking. I would like to see a chair in front of it, to get a better idea of the dimensions.

WHOA! where did you get that desk brained?!?!?!
I love it, my powerbook and 17" apple monitor would go very nice on a desk like that i need space and style, not a fold-up supply table...Did you build it? or is it online?!?! omg that's sweet

Thanks, Liamcow. Yeah, I built it myself when I couldn't find anything I liked for use in my studio. I get compliments on it all the time, and have built and sold a half-dozen of them for some colleagues of mine for use as desks in their agencies.

I haven't yet built a site for them...yet. They look pretty friggen cool with laminated birch ply tops as well. But I'm partial to the glass.

Where are you located?

I think the other side of the US

I'm over in Cape Cod, MA

I'm pretty handy with construction and I've done some pipework before, I think I could attempt that... but what kind/size of piping did you use and what kind of glass? Demensions would help too... seems like a fun project.
Maybe I could expand on the idea, did you ever try any shelf system?

Those people had a booth at MWSF '03. The desk looks a little better in person, but is still ugly.

Something like that would never work for me because I have to have papers and books on my desk along with my computer, but for the style-concious home user with no sense of style, it seems perfect.

ibookin'@mwny you also have two calendars and tons of junk on your desk.
This desk is great...but too small. If only Apple sold desks as well as computers...imagine Jonathan Ive and the entire industrial design team designing desks! Now on the other hand my desk is nice, big and matches the cinema displays and power mac G4's. My perfect desk however would be one that was 20+ ft long because i love to have my cinema displays in a row and with an ordinary desk is impossible to do if you have cinema hd displays and gigantic computer stuff. and i know i'm saying 'desk' in every sentence. :D

Haven't tried the shelves yet, but I have numerous sketches in the book.

As I said, I've built and sold several of these to local shops already, which kinda qualifies this as a side business. If you're interested in buying a desk, I'll be happy work something out with you. Unfortunately, I've spent so too much money on power tools, hardware and mileage and time spec'ing out all of the parts for this to hand over plans and dimensions. Not that it's rocket science, but It's a hobby that I occassionally get money for.

The same could be said for my work...but that's a different story.

Let me know if you're interested.

I think Dieter from Sprockets has that desk.

Just try pricing 20 or 30 of these cocoons for your shop...or moon base alpha...whichever.

The coolest creative shops I've seen or been to always lean toward everyday materials used innovatively, rather than $5500 workstations featuring molded plastics and customizable components.

I think some designers design these more for critical acclaim among their peers than for functionality.

I don't think that iMac desk would look right in a house, but in a showroom, such as an Apple re-seller, like iJon said, it would look neat.

That's totally understandable, I know (having to start my DJ/production system while still in college) You can't just hand stuff out, I'm just gonna stick with the good old dorm-friendly fold out desk. Have fun; good luck.
