Marketing. You've bought into marketing, and that's exactly the place where marketing wants you.

Again, people are criticising the product because of its price point. If it were a $50 or $80 speaker then sure it performs great. But for $200 no, the sound it produces isn't acceptable.

Well, I didn't actually see that video until last night when I was looking for a tear-down of the unit. I bought the unit earlier the same day. In all honesty, the only thing that I read/watched about the Jambox was an Engadget review from some time ago, and they gave it a decent review, but far from perfect.

I had all but forgot about the Jambox until I saw and tried it out myself at the Apple store a couple months back. It sounded great to me. Trust me, there was no marketing that swayed my decision. I bought the Jambox yesterday because my birthday's coming up and I gave myself an early b-day present and couldnt be happier.

Also, a good deal of what they said in that video is not marketing schtick. If you've ever built custom sub cabs and/or are into proper bass response and acoustics you'd know about what materials are best for the job and how to form and seal said cab. Proper cabinet design and implementation is arguably more important than the speaker itself.

And the pricing thing, that's all opinion. In my opinion it was two hundees well spent... And the 4% corporate discount didn't hurt either.

BTW- have you actually heard the Jambox in person, or have you bought into all the negative opinions around here? ;)

This thread is a perfect example of how people are fooled into buying crappy products because of fancy marketing.

They should show this thread to future college courses in marketing to explain how easily people can be duped into throwing their money away.

Read my post above and you'll see that it negates your point completely. That is, unless I was subconsciously marketing the Jambox to myself...

Like has been said many times in this thread, it's my and others opinions that the Jambox sounds great for what it's intended purpose is. No marketing needed. Just go to an Apple store and try on out for yourself. Just make sure your expectations are in line with what the the product really is and is meant for.

if that was under $75 i would have been all over it. I need something to plug my ipod into while i shower.

Funny you say that because I tested the Jambox out in a few different rooms in my house last night and it sounds even better in the bathroom due to the acoustic properties that most bathrooms have. Especially my tiny bathroom

No, it's a perfect example of how people automatically hate something because it's out of their price range.

Nobody in this thread who actually owns the product has said that they dislike it. All the negative comments are coming from people who think it costs too much.

I am sorry to start the bandwagon again.

I own one and I love it. I didn't pay full price for it and probably wouldn't have initially( cause $200 is alot of $), but now tht I have one I will be ordering another for the m$.

I paid $149.99 for my JBL audio speakers that were my old portable beach/lake/party speakers. I paid less than tht for these, this one sounds better.

I am in agreement with the poster above, owners need to pipe up, I've yet to hear someone who owns it diss it. Just saying.

People looking for this type of speaker want to know if it sounds good and mine sounds AWESOME.

And for the person who asks me how it handles bass the answer is very well. Go to a Store where you can hear one and just turn it on, it does this power up bass waterfall tht quite frankly will shock anyone who holds one. I had some portable bose speakers before my jbl speakers and this sounds better than bost.

Sound, it's. Subjective thing. These sound great, checkem out.

Funny how you list the bold text as though it were actually in the review that you linked to. NO where in the article does it say that, certainly not in the Cons/Bottom Line...

In fact the only Cons are: "Middling sound quality still can't compare to most iPod docks of the same price."

And their bottom line states: "The Aliph Jawbone Jambox Bluetooth speaker has a great feature set and packs a lot of punch for its size, but it's still pricey for what it is."

So that begs the question, are you an idiot or just a bored troll?

Actually after following the link, it says their initial review was based on a defective unit. Re read this link for a better idea of how it plays out. Perfect example of early reviews being withdrawn and rewritten. They gave it 3-1/2 stars put of 5. I would give it 4 out of 5 simply because of the cost. At $100-$150 it's a 5/5. :)

Ah yeah, I didn't catch that it was a re-review. I agree with you though, I'd give it 4 out 5 stars as well, as far as price is concerned. But if price were not in the equation at all, it'd be a five stars for build quality, speaker quality(for such a tiny unit) and overall functionality. The little box that could has quite an impressive feature-set, what with all the voice commands for use as a speakerphone, firmware updates and downloadable voice apps available through their MyTalk portal. The package as a whole has me quite impressed. Not to mention all of the quality extras that are included in it's packaging(two micro-USB cables of varying lengths, folding charger (a-la iPad charger), a collapsable magnetic travel case and that sweet flat ribbon cable (3.5mm audio) which now resides in my car, connected to the aux jack.

I'm liking my purchase more and more :)

Alright, time to hit the sack...

Love Jambox Portability and Sound

I just bought a Jambox at the Apple Store. I don't know about all the criticism on this thread, but I love mine. I think the sound is great. I love the blue tooth functionality and the fact that I can drop this in my brief case, and have a great speaker when I need one.

My big plan is to use this with my iPad, my new tiny 300 lumen Qumi Projector (when it is released in May), and have a portable presentation system that fits in one pocket of my briefcase.

I think it is worth $199 but expect it will come down in price. I have used someother smaller speakers that are cheaper and they don't have the same richness of sound.

Ok, so the big question is are there any other products around that basically do the same thing and are less expensive? I'd love to have something like this but $200 is a bit much.

I'd assume the prices will come down at some point. A lot of what you're paying for currently is the R&D for the unit. Once that expense has been recouped, I think we'll see less expensive units with similar or the same sound quality in a similar size. This is of course, just speculation on my part though.

@itsjustmeee I looked at several other somewhat similar bluetooth speakers at Fry's a couple months ago in the $80-150 range, because I was hoping to avoid dumping $200 on the Jambox (which I'd already used after getting my wife one for Christmas). I don't remember most of the models, but I do remember this one which is smaller than the Jambox: http://www.amazon.com/Monster-MBL-CLY-SPKR-BT/dp/B003TFEHMU

I remember testing 3 of them in the store. Differences with the Jambox:
  • Sound quality was generally poor, significantly worse than the Jambox. Most sounded worse than the Apple earbuds that come with your iThing.
  • None of them had the speakerphone capability for conference calls, if that's something you think you might use.
  • The build quality was generally lower, but that's to be expected for a more reasonable price.

Insignia, Best Buy's in store brand, had a bt speaker available for around $20-$40 a few months ago. I was lucky tofind a display model for $15 and it worked pretty well. Paired up easily, sound was able to fill a bedroom and also had a line in port for direct plug in audio.

I've noticed a lot of companies now doing bt speakers such as logitech and Creative as well as a handful of others and their prices start at $50 depending on which one it is and where you buy it from.

I'll keep my eyes open. I've been pretty happy with logitech products in the past. The thing is whether these bt speakers also have a mic. That really adds to the functionality.
