To read/write NTFS on Lion I had to delete the folder 'ufsd.fs' from /system/Library/filesystem

I installed a third party NTFS driver (Paragon 9.0.1 worked for me)

Now my NTFS drive mounts and I can read/write.

Hope that helps.
Thank you -- I had the same problem, and removing ufsd.fs solved it. This is a Paragon universal file system driver, but it should be removed from Lion. After removing it I installed Paragon 9.0 and it all works!

If you're not in a hurry, giveawayoftheday.com is a site that gives away a commercial Windows application every day. The turnover happens at midnight. There is a sub-domain of game.giveawayoftheday.com that features a game as well, but rarely does that change over daily as they can't get a steady flow of free Windows games.

Sometimes they feature a Mac app as well, and near the beginning of the year Paragon NTFS was featured along with Paragon HFS+ For Windows. The installers have a wrapper that makes it so you have to install them before the day is out, but they are the fully licensed versions of the programs.

So if NTFS-3G Free never gets updated, and you are patient, I would be surprised to see Paragon NTFS for Mac appear again one of these days on Giveaway of the Day. Paragon regularly contributes to the site and all the software they feature tends to come back around sooner or later.

Sure enough!! Merely hours after my post, GiveAway of the Day started giving it away for free! Wow! I thought it would be many months away. Go grab it now folks!! giveawayoftheday.com

And Folks - Please remember to download and request your serial key for this BEFORE MIDNIGHT TONIGHT PACIFIC TIME!! If you don't download and request a serial before midnight you will NOT be able to get this software for free, and the regular price is $19.95

Awesome!!

I had less than 5 days remaining in my trial period. Just got it installed and activated for free.

Now Paragon driver won't work. I had to reinstall driver and everything is back to normal. Any way, if you want to restart to Windows you can do it in System Preferences/NTFS for Mac OS X...

I can't format NTFS disk in Lion with Disk Utility!

After I intall Paragon-NTFS V9.0.1, my NTFS disk can be Read-and-Write, it's cool!;)

But, when I try to format NTFS partition in Lion with Disk Utility, I can't input name for the volume, and either can format it to NTFS format.:confused::confused:

Anyone please help!

As matter of fact, Yes, I did restart my Mac after installing Paragon-NTFS V9.0.1. Still there's no difference.

Ive tried installing NTFS 3-G

NTFS (Windows NT File System)
  • Read/Write NTFS from native Windows.
  • Read only NTFS from native Mac OS X
[*]To Read/Write/Format NTFS from Mac OS X, here are some alternatives:
    • For Mac OS X 10.4 or later (32 or 64-bit), install Paragon (approx $20) (Best Choice for Lion)
    • For 32-bit Mac OS X, install NTFS-3G for Mac OS X (free) (does not work in 64-bit mode)
    • For 64-bit Snow Leopard, read this: MacFUSE for 64-bit Snow Leopard
    • Some have reported problems using Tuxera (approx $36).
    • Native NTFS support can be enabled in Snow Leopard and Lion, but is not advisable, due to instability.
  • AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support NTFS
  • Maximum file size: 16 TB
  • Maximum volume size: 256TB

On Copy Carbon Cloner...
New in Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1:

New Features:

• Support for backing up to/from network volumes
This version adds support for backing up to and from non-HFS+ volumes. Specifically, you can back up the contents of FAT32 and NTFS volumes, as well as the contents of a network-attached volume (e.g. AFP, SMB). CCC will preserve as much filesystem metadata as possible, and will warn when incompatibilities exist between the source and destination filesystems. Please note that clones of NTFS volumes will not be bootable.

after reading all of your replies i am planning to go for paragon, but i have a question, after installing paragon on lion, will i be restricted for huge files more then 4 gb or not?
If its be restricted to 4gb then i am not going to go for it, i will go for changing the NTFS partition to fat32
thanks

No. Only FAT32 has a maximum file size limitation. None of the formats have a minimum file size limitation. The size limitation is dependent on the format, not on what software you install.
