Not sure if i missed something here but I do have Apples Number's and Pages on both my MBP and my shiny new Ipad. Can I take my spread sheets off my MBP and transfer them to my Ipad ? From what i see in Itunes it looks the other way around

Not in front of computer..but...

Got to itunes..
Connect iPad..
Select your iPad on the left (this is the screen that has all your sync selections, music, video, apps..etc)..
Select "Apps"..
Scroll to bottom..
You should see a radio box with "Numbers" on the left..
The right box is empty..
Click "add" (I think)..
Browse for file..
select file..
Sync iPad..

That will transfer the file to your iPad.

Open Numbers..
Select the "folder" icon in top right corner..
You should see your file..

I think this is right...
