I am buying iPhone on July 11th.
I also have an existing contract with T-mobile that expires Aug 7th. Is it possible to activate iPhone on July 11th with a new phone number, then after my t-mobile contract expires to transfer my t-mobile number to the iPhone.

I wont be paying for my last month of t-mobile service as my brother is taking it for a month.

I kind of think I remember reading somewhere that there is a fee if you don't port your number a certain amount of time after starting the contract with AT&T.

BUT, I could be completely making that up since I don't remember where I am getting that info from, so I'd say just call AT&T, they'd probably know better than us (or def. better than me at least).

Yes, I did the same thing with my 1st gen iPhone. The iPhone was a big mystery back then, and I didn't want to break my Vz contract, so I got a new number with AT&T for the iPhone, and when the Vz contract was expired about a month later I ported the number over with one quick call to AT&T. During that month I just forwarded all calls to my Vz number over to the iPhone. The only thing that didn't really work well with both phones on was texting, because you can't forward them.
