Numbers-file 4 times as big after iCloud

I uploaded a Numbers-file from my iMac to iCloud. Then I opened it on my iPhone and closed it. When I downloaded it back on my iMac I saw that the file size had increased by as much as 4 times.

I know there is some conversion going on, but 4 times as big? Anyone have a similar experience? Or is it a setting I am overlooking?

EDIT:
If I download the same numbers-file as a XLS-file it is way smaller. When I convert this file to Numbers, it has the same size as the original I started with.
