I'd like to add the 5090FE whenever it becomes available.

I dual boot into Windows for gaming once in a while on my fully specced out Mac Pro 7,1 and my Studio Displays. Right now I have a 6900XT and it works great and the computer is more than fast enough for me for what I do on the Windows side (just gaming).

It seems that 5090FE requires 600 watts for power, would I be able to leave the 6900XT in there and still have the 5090 without an external PSU?

I tried the Titan RTX and it work fine under bootcamp, My question is I know that the 5090 will work on the Mac Pro under bootcamp but my problem lies on I have two Pro Display XDR and on the 5090 it does not have thunderbolt 3 on the 5090, Did some research can a thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort cable work on the XDR to the 5090 or do I have to buy other monitor, I spent $14k on my XDR"s and it takes majority of the space on my desk

I dont know about the Pro Display, but I have the 5k Studio Displays (2 of them) and a OEM 6900XT in my Mac Pro and this cable works (I bought 2):

(There should be cheaper ones if you look around)

Since Pro Display is 6k i havent personally tried it.

I was thinking of keeping the 6900XT in my Mac Pro and then adding the 5090 and then using a DisplayPort switch to switch one of my monitors back and forth between the 6900XT (macOS) and 5090 (Windows)

FWIW I used my Studio Display with a 4070 Ti Super on my PC just fine - it was picky about which TB3 to DP cable though. Can't see why this wouldn't work under bootcamp.

I looked into a switch to switch Mac and PC with the Studio Display. Weren't many options and those that I did see it seemed the switching was a bit flakey. So gave up and just moved cables around. Then gave up on that and just hooked a spare monitor to the PC and installed Parallels on the Mac lol.

I know this doesn't help you much.

Just bumping this thread with a new ask.

I saw that some folks have put in a Founders Edition 5090 and it fits perfectly, just need additional cables/splitters for AUX power.

My plan is to turn my 7,1 into a Windows 11 box full time and get a Mac Studio for work and use a KVM switch for the 2x Apple Studio Displays. I may remove the 6900XT and back in the RX580 MPX module.

My biggest concern is obviously performance with PCIe and a newer card like 5090, will I notice it? I don't really do competitive gaming, and I would like to run games at 4k @ 60FPS (max supported by Studio Displays). Potentally if a new Studio Display comes out with 5k @ 120FPS next year I may get those but thats not a priority.

And second concern is KVM switching. Right now I use the Belkin VR cables for both Studio Displays and it works perfectly along with all the Studio Display features + 6900XT.

I need to connect a Mac Studio/Mac Pro to a KVM switch > 2x Studio Displays + Magic Keyboard (I guess I can't use it wirelessly anymore, can run it via lightning USBC cable to the switch) + Logitech G702 mouse (USB)).

Any thoughts appreciated

I've literally just went through a similar thought / idea process with my 7.1. It's mostly a Windows 11 Bootcamp development rig these days with twin w6900 mpx modules and the 16 core xeon so has plenty of grunt still. However with all three major hardware and software players turning their backs on the 7.1 I've given up thinking about longevity or upgrades. Apple will not support the machine any more. Windows will not update properly without the TPM and AMD won't release any new drivers resulting in newer games not even starting. Even switching to Nvidia will not get the new games working as you won't get secure boot so anti cheat requirements won't work. It's a shame that every party involved in the chain are effectively killing the 7.1 but it is what it is. I won't throw anymore money at Apple not that they will care or notice. What did I do? Bought a top spec gaming PC to enjoy hassle free gaming. The difference is remarkable!!

The other crazy thing is the price of 5090 Founders Edition:

Pretty crazy price. With the prices of GPUs, RAM, etc I am just not upgrading anything. I'm not going to be bothering with gaming on any computers. Paying $10,000+ is nonsense. Even $6000 for the regular 5090 RTX is absurd.

I can get it around $2,000-$2300 USD locally which is still crazy high, but would love to play @ 4k-5k 60fps maxed out on studio displays at 4k.

To be fair, that one listing appears to have the same photos as multiple listings from multiple vendors at differnet prices, so probably scam ;)
