In a laptop?! Good luck!

I don't mind the need for eGPU, options are a great thing... but with Mac laptop's that's becoming more of a necessity but even still, Thunderbolt sucks for eGPUs as it can't drive something like a GTX 980...
The whole point of eGPU is to give you a powerful and replaceable GPU.

But if I can make the GPU replaceable and better for a few hundred dollars then why not.
Yeah, it would be nice if Apple starting putting MXM slots in Macs.

I guess this is where Linux comes to the rescue. I just wish Linux had more native games. Though it seems like Linux keeps getting more native games as time goes on. It could be just a matter of time before Blizzard and other big developers start making native games - it would be awesome to be able to play StarCraft II on Linux without Wine or PlayonLinux. Valve making all of its games was a big change in and of itself, and I expect other big developers will follow. I know I’m not the only Mac user who’s getting ready to switch to Linux so I can get faster and more upgradable hardware.

Not like gamers will.

And since this is supposedly not a gaming card it's aimed at enterprise there'll be companies buying them by the thousands.

Nvidia marketing likes to have it both ways. This is nothing but a Ti with all the bits enabled due to the chips being golden samples. There is no double precision advantage or anything such. The card itself still carries the GeForce branding too. It's a card they clearly want to sell to anyone they can, and rightfully so. Halo products gonna halo.

You are aware that running the card externally through TB3 will cause it to loose up to 20 to 40% performance, even worse with TB2, which is the case for trashcans.

20 to 40% loss? Is it really that bad? I find it a bit strange since Thunderbolt 3 is supposed to have PCI Express 3.0.

And that implies… that there's not such a bad performance drop using Thunderbolt 3 vs ”pure” PCI-E 3.0. Or?
Yeah, it’s not too bad. I’d say it’s a 10% performance drop, which isn’t bad when you’re playing a game. When I play games on my eGPU, I don’t notice any lag.
