Thanks for the very lukewarm acknowledgement, at least. :D

Seriously though, product cycles are very long in the industry - and Jobs was there before his first leave for the major decisions for most of the products that the public saw during the first "Cook era".

Look at where we are today. Although people wonder about what products using Sandy Bridge will come this spring/summer from Apple - the reality is that Foxconn is working on manufacturing the Sandy Bridge systems and the teams at Apple have already moved on to working on Ivy Bridge systems. And "Ivy Bridge" is public knowledge - Apple partners under NDA have access to things after "Ivy Bridge" (or at least much better information about Ivy Bridge schedules and capabilities (server/desktop/mobile, dual/quad/hex core, chipsets, ...)).

So, anyway, claiming that "Apple did OK during the few months that Cook previously was acting CEO" is missing both that Jobs was in fact in touch during most of that leave and the fact that major decisions on many projects that the public saw during the leave had been made months before Jobs' leave.

And claiming that Jobs is the single cause of all of that is missing the fact that Jon Ive, Phil Schiller, Tim Cook and all the rest are all talented at what they do. Really, they're ALL important.

Agreed - but some of the fans think that the guy in the turtleneck is the only one who actually does any significant work at Apple. ;)

Most of the real work is done by people who are never recognized.

What

NOO! For the love of god, do not release the new 13" mbp with a c2d processor! I'm planning on making the switch from my old pc to a mac with the next update, but there's no way in hell I'll pay that much money for such an archaic processor.

You're still paying more than you should by buying any Mac period. Though to be fair, you are most ripped off with the 13" MacBook Pro than you are by any other computer, let alone Mac.

I know, but including a c2d cpu is certainly not making things better. My pc is about five years old, so I'm planning on getting rid of it and then use the mbp as a desktop replacement but I also need the mbp for taking notes at school (hence the need for a 13"). Man do I hope they won't use a c2d processor, that'd be completely unacceptable :\

I'd consider a white MacBook unless you need FireWire, or the SD card slot. It's otherwise the same computer but for $100 less (which assumes that you've put the same amount of RAM in the white MacBook as comes stock with the 13" MBP when customizing it on Apple's website).

Otherwise, this is the basis for my argument as to why I predict that the 13" MBP isn't long for this world, let alone Apple's line-up.

I've definitely been considering it but man do I like that alu unibody design (especially concerning durability).

It does have a problem - primarily their energy/performance isn't as good as Intel which would be reduced battery life, "we've moved to AMD and now you have 1 hour less than you did with your Intel laptop" - how delightful the user base will say!

You must be out of date on that, they've much improved on that over the more recent years to be pretty much on par with Intel.

The polycarbonate plastic MacBook is actually MORE durable than the aluminum. The plastic dings, the aluminum dents, same impacts. This is why the education market can't be without a plastic MacBook in Apple's line-up, and why whitey isn't going anywhere in the relatively near future.
