Honestly, how bad is reception in Manhattan? Dropped calls all the time? Slow data and internet connection? Text messages coming through hours after they were sent? I always hear about these issues. How true are they?

I live a little outside the city but when I do go there, it's never that bad.
I always have service.
Everything really just varies. (3G/Edge, how many bars...)

The few times I'm in Manhattan it's pretty abysmal. I have no complaints in Brooklyn and Queens.

[edit] This is with iPhone 3G.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)

I'd say it's definitely gotten better. Whether that's because of ATT or the iPhone 4 I can't say.

I just switched over from Verizon and so far (about one week of service), it's been great. I work in Manhattan and in a tall building so the 3G network is a little slow but at my apartment in Queens, it's great.

No dropped calls yet but I don't talk on the phone that much.

They did make an upgrade to the network in NYC and the surrounding boroughs recently. I really have nothing to compare it too since I'm new
