Dear Apple,

I've gone through 3 car stereos in 4 years. Every time iOS receives a major update, it renders the bluetooth on the stereo useless. Put out your own car stereo please so I can stop flushing my money down the toilet.

Thanks

I just pictured you flushing money down the toilet, it was actually quite entertaining - in my mind.

I thought this sounded quite silly at first, but the idea of it acting as a key to unlock your phone when you're near it, and alert you when you leave it somewhere, sounds pretty cool. Ah, who am I kidding, of course I'd get one!

One obvious point though - watches get wet (at least the do when you live in Birtain). That would have to not be a problem.

Am I the only one who thinks the whole smart-watch thing is a gimmick?

No, but imagination, foresight, and visionary thinking are traits only a sliver of the population possess. Everyone else just buys what these types produce after they are done mocking it.

only geeks will wear a watch like this.

Just like only geeks would ever use a personal computer said your doppelganger back in the 70s.

It would be sad and cynical if Cook's membership of two boards drove this forward too far.

Because it doesn't appeal to you? It appeals to me, therefore it'll be a runaway hit!<wry grin>

Seriously, though, I think this is potentially quite interesting, as a watch wearer (for telling time, not for fashion) adding functionality into a device I already have with me is a win-win (assuming they don't add functionality that appeals to those who wear watches as status symbols and fashion accessories - if they appeal to that crowd, I'm probably not in). This device could take over several functions that my phone performs, and perhaps in the future it could even replace the phone for some of us (cellular capabilities, retractable or wireless earpiece/microphone, music streaming, access to basic other functions such as calendar, alarm, and lots of other stuff I'm not nearly clever enough to imagine).

Lemmings.... Line up like drones & brag about it.

That fruity logo draws them in every time.

The legacy of a master salesman lives on, long after Elvis...

I do detect some bitterness...

You might have a point if the products people were lining up for weren't great, just fashion or novelty. For example, I've never seen any lines for a next gen Apple TV. Where are those Apple lemmings then?

Also, what is the point of bragging about something that isn't all that exclusive? Practically everyone and their grandma owns some Apple product. My 73 y.o mom has an iPhone 4S and and iPad 3. No one is impressed one owns an iPhone or an iPad. It's not a Bentley, it's a massed produced consumer device.

But it's a mass produced consumer device that can greatly help one's productivity and workflow which is why people are addicted to them. Just last week Home Depot announced they were switching from Blackberry to iOS. There was also a story how CACI was securing iPads for gov't employees in sensitive areas. I'd hardly call two of the stodgiest organizations on the planet lemmings out to have the latest fad.

Obviously you've been watching too many Samsung ads and taking them to heart. Talk about a lemming....

I do not want a watch. I want a bluetooth-enabled button/badge with a built in speaker/mic that I secure to my shirt to activate Siri ST:TNG-style. A simple tap and all I need say is "Siri, what time is it?" and it communicates with my iPhone which is secured in a belt clip on my waist.

Amazeballs! You should change your forum name to Nostradamus for your ability to predict the future.

<You know nothing about the project. No one outside of Infinite Loop does, so stop pretending you do.>

You couldn't come up with a more constructive post to back up your claims, other then an insulting sarcastic one? Why did you even bother replying to my truthful comment when you are incapable of posting a sensible counter claim? You make no claims what so ever to prove you are any more right then I am, just a statement with no evidence simply stating you are right, everyone else is wrong, because you say so!?

Nobody had a computer then. Hence the PC was not replacing an existing product. So the idea that only geeks would use computers is different the from sentiment some have now.

By making a watch, Apple is competing against the likes of Rolex, Cartier, etc (and other non luxury watch makers)
All of which target a completely different market, with a completely different agenda. And it is working quite well, unlike the music industry before the iPod was released.

I for one, will not replace my watch (not that I wear it much) with an "iwatch". Why would I wear a watch that everyone else is wearing?

I just don't see an Apple watch being as successful as the iPhone.
Maybe it will sell as much as the Apple TV, not much more.

I see a lot of people still wearing a watch.

And I don't know about you guys, but back when I watched all these science fiction movies, series or games and saw these transparent devices...including wrist devices, I always thought:
I want that!

I bet you people would even criticize Apple if they were to release a Hoverboard. ;)

I bet you can't wait to say "He's dead Jim" or "Beam me up Scotty".

Clearly a "Driod" user

Hehe that wouldn't be much of an evolution compared to a normal watch, though, since you can just look at it and learn what time it is.

Watch and learn

I LOVE the idea and have been waiting patiently-however watches do not need to curve-they just need to fit and hopefully NOT need to be within reach of an iphone-they can BE the iphone. Also pocket watches for those who don't want one on their wrist. Removable earpiece on the edge of the watch. Flip open and it could almost be the size of todays iphone anyway-PLEASE, I hate having to reach in pockets for the phone and carry this extra thing around in pants or coats.

1) Consumers & business owned typewriters and adding machines in the 70s, which is what computers did replace, and then some.

2) You must not own a luxury watch. I do. I also own a Fuelband. The two do not in any way compete with each other. I love my Fuelband, but wouldn't wear it to a formal event or anywhere else where it didn't fit the scene, just as I wouldn't wear a t-shirt and jeans to a wedding. I'd wear a suit or tux, as requested, and my dress watch. The "watch" we hear Apple looking into is more of a wearable computer than a traditional watch. Not sure what so many people can't get that concept wrapped around their head.

Uh, no one, not even you, knows what features an Apple watch will bring. That is what I wrote. It's a lot more "constructive," than your snarky post, which cannot be factually proven for truth. How can you dismiss a product you've never even seen before except in your own private & 3rd party dreams?

Or as a wearable remote to my appletv or computer or ipad? A single notification center? Or how about it having LTE and serving a a hotspot for all my devices?

a watch as a keeper of time, makes no sense...but this could be another apple disruption. I'm interested!

Those things already exist, it's called an iPhone. Why would I want to wear it on my wrist? I haven't worn a wrist watch in decades and have no desire to wear one ever again. I also feel the same way about underwear.

If used for Authentication...

I think the watch would be excellent if you could use it to auto-authenticate into devices. That way you could setup a very strong password on your devices (which on a phone would be annoying to re-enter often), however, if the watch could auto-authenticate you that'd be awesome. Then if the watch detects that it's removed from your body it requires you to re-authenticate into the watch before it will auto-unlock your devices.

That type of functionality would convert it from a fancy toy to a security-enhancing device. :)
