What is the O there for instead of the E for the edge symbol??
O means GPRS
Essentially one step below Edge. Usually a transition from Edge to 3G.
Hope this helps
Ya i always get a small O while im making a call or just hanging up a call.
I've gotten that as well a couple of times. I thought it was the Obama campaign hacking my phone.
Thankfully it goes away, although I don't understand why it shows up on mine since I don't have 3G.
yea i dont have 3g in my area either. and it never comes up when i am making or getting calls. there always just nothing there
GPRS, EDGE, and 3G are all separate connection speeds.
Someone said it was a transition from EDGE to 3G, hence my confusion.
Going from Edge to 3G (Or vise versa) In my opinion is when Edge ends, and before 3G Picks up, GPRS is only available. Sometimes it shows up, others not.
Whats with the 9 = 8?
9 player working hard for 9 innings = one of the 8 spots in the playoffs, 9=8
Joe Madden the manager of the tampa bay rays said that when they made the playoffs
What??? Is his iphone jailbroken or something?
Shouldn't that be 9+9=8?
Either way, he must be related to John "king of the obvious" Madden. "This is a guy who when he runs, he goes faster!"
If you dont like the "O", you can change it to an "G" with a program in cydia
It should be 9*9 since you can't add unlike terms.
Basically, if your iPhone cant get 3G, it goes to EDGE, if it cant get EDGE it goes to GPRS.
If you have a first gen iPhone then if it cant go to EDGE it goes to GPRS.
In 2.1, the icons for GPRS, EDGE and 3G all changed, so it shows up differently then previous software versions.
LoL. John Madden is a legend.
i've wondered what that is. thanks for the post (and answers).
do you know what the O was before 2.1??
In the Seattle area, there are quite a few non-3G and EDGE spots here. Worst I have seen, 'searching... 3G'.
it was an O in a box. Just like the Edge icon used to be an E in a box and the 3G icon used to be a 3G in a box.
o = GPRS, which is the base of GSM
E = EDGE, which is "enhanced data..." and faster than GPRS
3G = it's the fastest out of the three connections on the iphone
First of all, I showed no political affiliation and it has nothing to do with my political affiliation. I would have said this if they said something the other way around too.
Second of all, I warned because I saw a thread last week that was immediately locked for less politics than was introduced into this thread.
We get a lot more GPRS here in the UK as EDGE is still pretty limited. Although I think we have more 3G.
3G is still quite limited in my area of London.
