I have just received a text from O2 to say I have used 80% of my 500mb data allowance on my iPhone contract.... 420mb to be exact....

Yet I reset my data usage on the day my contract turns around every month do I can keep track of my usage... And my usage stats on my iPhone say I have only used about 200mb!!!!

So who is correct O2 or my iPhone 4???

And what happens if u ho over and get charged, doubt I will as it's 80mb in 2 days.

Yes, of course, my sent at the time of writing this..... is 22.7mb, and my received is 202mb... which i find astonishing as i havent used my phone since i posted earlier!!!!

Starting to worry now...!

I don't know about the discrepancy of data amounts, but can answer the second part of your question.

I went over my data limit last month, o2 don't charge anything but they slow down your data, so basically its useless other than for checking emails.
I called them up and they said I could pay £5 for an extra 500mb to be added on, which I did.

Ok so i called O2 the same day as i posted and here is the story of that call...

Spoke to an O2 advisor (who didnt own an iPhone and therefor was not familiar with the Usage section on Settings App) and she tried to pawn me off with some excuse that i can take 12-24 hours for data usage to be recognised... to which i replied,

"So you are trying to tell me that O2's servers see my data usage BEFORE my iPhone registers the incoming/outgoing usage... I find that very hard to believe and would say that is a fault with my phone, is that what you are implying?"

She said no and proceeded to ask me the question that i had asked her in the first place... "How can your phone show you have used less data than what our servers are telling us...?"

I laughed and said my point exactly...! At this point I requested to speak to her manager.

He came on the phone and told me he understood my query as he owned an iphone too so was perplexed by the discrepancy. He had a further look into my previous data usage and told me i had NEVER used more than 150-200Mb per month... as far back as he could check so again was bemused as to how i had used so much this month, and in fact he could see i had used 450mb in one day last week (a day i spent snowed in my house with wifi on constantly so very little chance of any 3G data being used at all) that hadn't registered with their servers... again i posed the question as to why this isn's shown on my device usage counter... He couldn't say.

The conclusion is that he was sending this case for further inspection and they would get back to me in 5 working days.... I am still awaiting the results.

I think something fishy is going on with O2's servers... Just guess I am lucky I never use the 3G data as my work and home have wifi and I spend most of everyday in either place!!!

I will let you all know the outcome of their investigations.....

So how did it go in the end?

I'm having the exact same experience with the same interaction with O2.

It must be something to do with Telefonica.. I have Telefonica Movistar in Spain and have exactly the same problem. I use about 1gb a month but they always bill 1.5gb+

i don't really care because there's no charge beyond thje 1gb allowance, just a slow down like Telefonica O2 in the UK.

Telefonica is a scammer company anywhere in the world, apparently.

I think o2 have gone right down the pan IMO!

I've been with them since before they was o2, BT Cellnet they was then.3G is bearable at best,Customer service haven't got a clue, tariffs are not exactly the greatest either, data bundles are better elsewhere too.

I'm seriously considering changing when my contracts up, will probably get rid off their Broadband too as thats not the greatest!
