The O2 website talks about "Special roaming
rates with ITS".
Does anybody know what this means? Will I need to turn off EDGE/GPRS data when I take my UK iPhone to France in order to avoid an enormous bill?

ITS is reduced calling rates when you're abroad - they're not amazingly cheap, but slightly better than normal.

YES you will have to turn off data to avoid a huge bill.
