Hi Guys, I was playing around with my iPhone 3G (3.0) and it's internet settings today, after I realized that the update replaces any previous settings that we entered before the iPhone was updated. I previously had changed this because O2 compress images when on their cellular data network (compare the App Store on cellular then WiFi). Check out this link for some info on that... "iPhone O2 - How to fix the compression" But, Since the 3.0 update the access point settings have changed from 'mobile.o2.co.uk' to 'idata.o2.co.uk'. And with this new access point comes the lack of ability to bypass image compression. But, In changing back the settings to 'mobile.o2.co.uk', Username: bypass, Password: 'pass' or 'password', - the compression is once again removed. Okay, So that's the basics covered. Now, In changing the settings to the above mentioned details I've noticed something else... Both 3G and GPRS speed up! Look below for the screenshots. (These were tested with Ookla's 'Speed Test' app from the app store - link below) (Left is default 3.0 settings, Right is altered settings) 3G GPRS Now, These tests were completed around three times for each setting and all provided the same conclusion. GPRS isn't as easy to test as 3G due to latency etc. but... Why not change the settings yourself and then speed test it with the 'Speed Test' App where you live... Link to the App Store.
